Hi there. I'm relatively new to the game, particularly assault, having spent most of my 21 hours clocked in so far playing as sniper, assassin and gunner. That said, before, when I played assault, I'd instantly upgrade charge to lvl 3. But then I've noticed that lvl 3, while it does more damage when it "connects" with the uppercut, seems to do next to no damage on the charge itself, and locks you in the "throw" animation, therefore limiting it to a single target. Lvl 2 charge does very high damage as is, high enough to one-hit kill "low health" classes like the sniper or assassin, and has the advantage of keeping you mobile, and being able to barrel through more than one target. So, I'm wondering, am I missing something on the lvl 3 charge? Or is lvl 2 legitimately better than lvl 3? Shouldn't the lvl 3 charge do actual charge damage? Cheers.
The description says that L3 Charge tries to Ring-Out pros. That's what it's trying to do - throw the poor sod that you've just careened into out of the rink (which pays you $75 instead of the $25 for a regular kill). If you're using Charge to smash through many things, then you should probably keep it at L2 or try Tank instead.
Yeah, but, you can also ring people out with the normal charge. Admittedly, it doesn't toss them as far, but still tosses them quite a long way. Usually enough for a ring out.
Which arena you're playing on would also matter. Something like Steel Peel would be better to keep the L2 Charge (it's nothing but high walls). Where-as something like Ammo-Mule would see much better use of it.
I always upgrade to level 3 just so I can scream SHORYUKEN every time a charge connects and get a funny look from my wife.
I personally keep mine at level 2 almost always (unless there are several pesky assassins chain juicing my base). I find that using level 3 leaves you far too vulnerable while doing the grapple animation, and yes, you are correct, a lvl 3 charge that doesn't trigger the grapples only does a very small amount of damage. It is up to personaly preference though, but I feel level 2 is superior (although level 3 recharges faster) and you also save yourself 400 bucks! Additionally, I rarely use my charge offensively, I mostly use it for reatreating out of unfavourable engagements (being able to pick your fights is one of assaults greatest strenghts). For an amazing player who's playstyle I shamlessly copied check out xenonox's channel, it is on xbox, but the guy is insane: http://www.youtube.com/user/xenorich
Yeah, Lv3 does almost no damage if you're in the air or your target is in the air. Two advantages to Lv3 that you've missed: - It goes farther - It recharges faster In addition to ring-outs, the Lv3 grapple is also great for CC against juiced players That said, whether or not I upgrade it depends on how the game is going. If there are assassins who I'm 1-shotting with the Lv2 charge, I'll probably just leave it.
Basically the argument boils down to whether you think the grapple is worth the animation time. I personally do since I enjoy earning $125 every time I Ring Out kill. Generally when you ring someone out you have time to taunt. There's arguments for both sides but I personally like the grapple. Its useful to delay juiced enemies too. I've killed juiced people with it. Its pretty sweet. BulletMagnet is also right. Its much worse on Steel Peel.
Best thing about level 3 is you can grapple juiced opponents, at level 2 you may hit them but it's not going to do much if they are not near a ledge or drop, but it comes down to what you want at the time as I usually stick with level 2 until the other team gets juice happy or I feel that I need it against tanks and gunners.
Yeah, the biggest advantage of lvl 3 IMO is being able to toss juiced players around like ragdolls. That said, the normal charge can still knock them back a good way (though not as much as lvl 3), and if anything I can always grapple-harass them with the grenade launcher's grapple
I rarely upgrade to level 3 charge. I always hate when I miss a charge and then end up grappling a bot instead of an assassin that is trying to backstab me. I also don't like how the grapple makes you open for attack. Plus, I tend to ring out people fine with level 2, and see no use in wasting $400 for a faster cooldown when I can put it towards another skill, turrets, or juice. I haven't really played assault much on the pc though, but have experience with him on xbox.
Another couple advantages to Lv3 is that it can deal with bouncers quick and easy (great for Spunky arena), and kills groups of gremlins instantly
Lv2 doesn't do much at all to bouncers I'm also fairly sure it doesn't kill full health gremlins instantly at lv2 like it does at 3 BAL_A_CHARGE_DMGVSFOD_B=500 BAL_A_CHARGE_DMGVSFOD_C=5000
