We all know the problems that RTS games face when it comes to losing. Losing brings an abrupt end to perfectly good matches, and is frustrating to players.

So my question is; what will the team at Uber do to combat losing, or make it impossible for players to lose?

Or do we really want losing to happen in a game like this?

Surely we should strive to remove all frustrating elements from the game. In an RTS depression like this, it's important not to allow potential newcomers to be scared away. Uber has the opportunty to take this bold new direction which would further progress the genre.

I'm not sure if you're sarcastic or just a big fan of Farmville.

I'm guessing the former, but with people these days...

Win/lose are merely narrative elements for a game, you could modify your UI so you would get a ending screen that say you win the game after your commander got killed, you could believe the purpose of the game for you is to lose your commander, while for your opponent it is to kill your commander, so you and your opponent both win.

I would suggest that the victory sees a "victory screen". The loser should see a "2nd place screen". :geek:

    To the Trolling OP, lol.

Sadly you've touched on something that seriously p*sses me off

Been afraid to lose and the "Everyone is a winner!" attitude is what is slowing destroying Western Youth.

People aren't born equal the best you can do is strive to improve your lot to surpass your peers or at least become contented in your lot.

Negating peoples will to get better at something "Because although you failed its ok, you win too! Heres a cookie"

On a more serious note, there's two things important here.

    A) Someone will be better. If you want that person to be you, work on it. You can get quite far, but it takes work.

    B) Losing is not a bad thing. As long as you enjoyed the game, you shouldn't have anything to complain about. Just keep practicing.

The whole "you shouldn't be able to lose because losing is bad!" is indeed poisonous to development. We only improve because we are faced with non-trivial situations that we have to work to beat. Taking all those away will stagnate your process.

At the end of the day, the winner is the guy who learned the most from the engagement, and who best enjoyed himself, whether he won or lost. (This is not counting only fun engagements where nothing serious is on the line, obviously)
