I'd DO NOT, feel that the Sniper is over powered, nor do I feel that the Assassin is underpowered.... In general.

But its just not sitting well with me that a well played Sniper is a deadlier foe in close quarter combat against the Assassin.

Grapple vs Grapple, the assassins rear grapple is OHKO. But the snipers frontal grapple is alot Deadlier than the assassins against the assassin.

On top of that, the freeze traps are the game breakers between the two. A sniper standing in the middle of the three traps nullifies the entire close range of the assassin limiting them to shurikens. (Being that the assassin is the ONLY class unable to disable traps.) Sure, they have a chance of killing the sniper with shirukens but, the sniper can easily avoid that death by not being completely stationary. And lets not forget the sniper has an SMG and a flak grenade to his advantage, mid range.

In conclusion, I just don't necessarily agree with an assassin (close range) being out done by the Sniper (long range) in close quarters. The assassin is at a disadvantage in a long range battle for certain, but also close range, just doesn't seem like a good balance.

I get that, some snipers may wander around the map, NOT utilizing their traps and THEN they are easy targets for assassins. But I just don't think it should have to come to that in order for an assassin to gain the upper hand on a sniper in close range.

I'd like to know what the community thinks of this.

I understand where you are coming from but can you not simply jump over an ice trap to prevent being frozen?

Also, surely the placement of traps is part of the game. Being a Sniper in MW2 & other shooters I always used traps to secure my location and I cannot see why this is unfair!

Third option is to simply work with your team to get someone else to kill him with you..

I have played vs many great Assassins and up close, if used well, they are almost untouchable. However every class has a fightback. (for example, Gunners GroundSlam can Ringout / stun, Assaults can attach a 'nade to them)

A smart sniper will upgrade his traps to level 3 and then stand on a trap. Jump over them for a backstab and you'll find yourself frozen and unable to backstab. At that point your only hope is that you've got the sword, gold rate of fire endorsement, and you can slash him enough times to hill him before you die.

Early game you can safely jump over traps and go for the grapple, since you can grapple while trapped. Also if the sniper hasn't upgraded his traps late game, same thing. But more and more I've been running into snipers who upgrade to the skill-sapping level three traps.

As an assassin I usually leave a sniper alone unless he's being dumb and just wandering around with no traps around him, then I'll close for the kill. Otherwise I'll juke around and harass him a little with some crit shurikens (if you manage to hit him with a volley without getting shot yourself, he'll often reconsider the safety of his perch) and then go kill a turret or clear a lane or etc.

Get behind him while he's occupied and unload on him with the shuriken launcher. Unarmored snipers can't stand up to much punishment.

Somewhat less profound than I thought my 100th post would be.

No you can not always simply jump over an ice trap. Level 3 traps gives the sniper 3 traps that also drain opponents skill. A sniper can have himself completely surrounded by traps giving no space for an assassin to land without triggering a trap. And once the assassin is trapped. All of their abilities are frozen. (grapple, smoke bomb, etc.)

Secondly, placement of traps isn't not the issue nor wasn't ever implied, "unfair".

The issue arises when you say things like, "Every class has a fightback."

This is not true. Assassins are the ONLY class with no way to disable traps. Regardless as to where the traps are located the assassin has no means of disabling them.

I personally play both Sniper and Assassin and I do very well on both ends. As a sniper, headshots are for everyone. As an assassin, I avoid tanks with full health and camping snipers. With tanks though, I'm able to shoot them, lunge and then grapple. Risky but doable. Against a snipers traps, assassins have nothing they can do to them.

And lastly to assume that xbox live always provides me with teamates to depend on is a fairytale. Sometimes they're the fact still remains, that this class for some reason has no way to disable traps. It can kill huge Jackbots and turrets but no answer for a snipers trap and grapple.

Overall this sways the close range battle in favor to the sniper with well placed traps and positioning. I'm simply implying that the assassin, like ALL the other class should also have a way to disable the traps, that way it can be a more level playing ground. (against the "long range" sniper.lol)

Scout it out. If a sniper can stand safely in that tiny trap trio radius, the rest of your team isn't pressuring enough. They don't have the hp to just stand there.

If you do have a buddy running gunner or assault, have them lob mortar or grenade to flush him out or spring the traps.

There are very few spots a sniper can stand safely and actually have a good shot at... anything

My favorite way to deal with snipers as assassin is to get Lv3 stealth, then just sneak up NEAR them and unload some shurikens. Using the Lv3 stealth crits, they're dead before they can react

Word up, when I started playing this game I ran assassin but quickly noticed that a mediocre sniper is much more potent than a good assassin. I have never joined a game and been pitted against an assassin who simply shut me down, but I have played games against snipers that made me hesitate to walk around corners.

Buff the assassin, don't nerf the sniper.

This is a discussion about the long range guy being deadlier than the close range guy at close range. Period. That fact just doesn't agree with me.

You're welcome to give input. If not, your welcome to leave.

So guys, im curious, with everyone saying just jump over the trap, how do you jump over a trap where the sniper is standing directly over? Dont say use the launcher to move the sniper, because its very easy to move 1 step forward, 1 step backwards, repeating to avoid being hit by the launcher.
