It sounds like you are you running the game through Steam? If so, can you try starting Steam from the command-line and try to start PA. Save the resulting info from the terminal into a file and upload it here. Can you also upload your system information. From Steam you can press Help -> System Information, I think. I may be confused about that though as I don't use Steam myself.
