I wanted to update stable via the regular launcher, but it fails immediately after pressing 'PLAY' with a message telling me to shut down all instances of PA and try again. Restarting the launcher and the system didn't help and PTE loads without issues. Is there any way to avoid downloading the entire branch again?

    Hello,

Do you have the latest DirectX, Visual C++, and .NET Framework?

Also, can you please post your Dxdiag so that I can check your system specs?

I guess I wasn't clear, but stable worked before, even yesterday. Haven't done anything on the system that would directly impact the installation either.

Your AMD drivers are almost two years old and could use an update:
    Code:
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6670
    Driver Version: 9.12.0.0
    Driver Date/Size: 12/19/2012 12:08:04, 1151488 bytes
And you only have 4GB of system memory:
    Code:
    Memory: 4096MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 4094MB RAM
You will need to download and install the latest beta drivers from the AMD website:
    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 7 - 64

4GB of RAM, under normal conditions, is not enough to play PA efficiently on multi-planet systems. 8GB or more is highly recommended.

This thread contains info on how you can get PA running with 4GB of RAM or less:
