I'm not one for telling people what to do but I think it will be best for the community if we use the game description to describe our skill levels so that the influx of new players around release know what to expect. Wether it's ;FFA all welcome, noob, average, good, pro or even as high as clopse level. You will also get a much better experience from your own games and we won't be scaring off new players that get stomped. I know this is not the whole community but it just takes a few games in the lobby explaining the skill level for it to catch on real quick. Tl:dr well if you didn't read you most likely will do whatever you like anyhows so carry on
Good idea, although I think you got the levels wrong... Clopse (Sober), Noob, Average, Good, Clopse (drunnk) / PRO
oh and raking systems and ladders are bollocks /S yeah well in the meantime, (so we can stop being dunces and actually be efficient) anyone think they can get this back to working order? https://forums.uberent.com/threads/wip-lobby-ranks.59307/page-2 serves to put a number range on the host. actual verification can be made. otherwise everyone will just be hosting clopse-level games cuz they think they're so great.
You're only allowed to select clopse level if you can play the game well but can't figure out how to setup a webcam.
Mods are all fine and well, but we need a vanilla way to do this until ladders etc are implemented. I would even argue that after ladders are in you would still want this. Sometimes you want to create a custom game and label / tag the skill level you are looking for in players. Sure people will struggle and argue over their meaning but most people will eventually get the gist and it will be more helpful than hurtful. Naming your game is free form and allows for endless possibilities which while good isn't as helpful as if we had skill tags we could use to mark the game, since those would be fixed. I would assume that adding tags is relatively easy for Uber to do.
while you see the mod vs.vanilla difference I see the verified tag vs pile of lies tag difference. I think my (temp) solution (until uber rolls out ladders) is better. coming from an age-old RTS I know what it is when rookies come around. They make new games labeled "pro", or "medium" because they managed to beat the hard AI ....
that's not such a problem. Imagine it's part of the PAstats mod. Litterally who on this forrum doesn't have PAstats mod? this works out perfectly. the people it matters to get to host their l33t matches and just kick out anyone without visible rating. ....not before politely telling them why they are being kicked and where they can get the rating. 100% chance of success. these traditions of naming your games certain ways started in GPGnet and Spring. I can tell you it works.
