After playing with the patch for a while, I thought about the Kraken sub.

I was sending it into a base, and since it can't been seen on radar, I felt pretty confident with it and there was an air force just behind to keep it safe. But I noticed one thing... I don't have radar either??? I was essentially trying to fight other ships that can hide.

So, how about some petty radar on the Kraken?

Meh, add radar to the destroyer so that it's useful again.

I find the fact that it's called a destroyer really confusing. It's kind of... shore bombardment? I figured its more of a cruiser now than anything. Shrug. Would make sense for it to have radar, but then it becomes too much of an all-in-one package... I feel like that would be like giving radar to artillery? But then adding radar to the Narwhal makes it like the super utility boat. Maybe give the Sun Fish radar? Might give it more of a useful later game role.

"In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast maneuverable long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against smaller powerful short-range attackers"

"A battleship is a large armored warship with a main battery consisting of heavy caliber guns."

The Orca is a smaller Battleship. For the Orca to be classified as a Destroyer, its guns should be replaced with guided Missile Launchers.

"In modern navies, frigates are used to protect other warships and merchant-marine ships, especially as anti-submarine warfare"

    the Narwhale is a Frigate.

If the Kraken gets a radar I would rather have it only work if the sub is surfaced. when/if surfacing and submerging comes to PA of course.

Yeah, naval terminology today is nothing like what it was 150 years ago and probably little like it'll be 150 years from now. Rule number one of sci-fi: never question the naval nomenclature.

Yeah, it's just such a convoluted area; I was leaning towards 'submarine destroyer' as opposed to the more contemporary 'missile destroyer', as the game has battleships - as these aren't in use today, and in their peak, the main use of destroyers was, as you say, destroying smaller ships or submarines. I feel that their most understood use is in submarine warfare, but I'm no expert! I think its confusing terminology, but without torpedoes, I just feel that 'destroyer' is inaccurate.

It's the use of battleships which throws it all out of whack, because the traditional battleships just aren't useful in modern navies, but they are present in the game, so contemporary naming convention doesn't work as cleanly as I'd like. Ahh semantics.

Maybe the Orca is a pocket battleship and the Leviathan is a Dreadnaught :D
