So, Uber would put 5% of their profits (after release) into other kickstarters. I dunno. It makes sense for smaller scale projects. For something as large scale as this though, 5% could be a very large amount. I'm assuming PA will be a runaway success at launch I think it would be better to reinvest the same amount of money you received from kickstarter donors. This only makes sense for large scale projects though, since not everything will make much profit from the initial capital. Whichever of the two is smaller, 5% or the Kickstarter amount, would be appropriate I think. Sort of like a 'cost-neutral' system, where the money is recycled as much as possible. ~ Reviewing my logic. If Uber made $30 million in profit (hurray for spectacular optimism), 5% would still only be $1.5 million, so less than what they get from Kickstarter (again, optimism ) Probably safe to ignore my thoughts then
Um I'm a bit lost as to what the point is. I'd much prefer 5% to be invested into a better game, another unit, whatever.
The point is that this project was only possible through the voluntary help of random people. Generosity is the what made PA a reality. There are probably countless other amazing projects that need funding to be awesome like this one. When one becomes a success beyond Kickstarter, it seems a moral obligation to support other projects that could be just like theirs if only they received the initial capital to get started.
I like the Kicking it Forward initiative. We're getting a lot of dream projects funded through Kickstarter so it seems like a great idea to take a successful project and use it to kickstart another.
I would prefer that they reinvest 5% the money in the game (or use it to help develop other games) than give it to other projects.
The money you make off the game is yours, do with it what you want. Kicking it forward seems like a pretty noble thing to do.
I dunno, it's like a charity then I suppose. If you want to, go right ahead and support a cause that you think is worthy. I don't think Kickstarter (Or PA funding) is related to generosity though. It's crowd sourcing an idea that people find to have a certain value. I didn't fund it because I felt like being generous, I funded it because I want it. On a side topic, software Kickstarters are a hilarious poke at the meme that all PC users are evil pirates that won't pay for anything (yeah I'm looking at you Ubisoft).
If everyone 'only' wanted the game, they'd only give $40-60. When people go to $100, $200, $1000, even $10000, when their investment is likely more than their gain, that's generosity. , yeah. I think most of this problem stems from massive surge of youths/unemployed/underaged people on the internet trying to get games. Either they just can't get the game due to online payments and stubborn parents, or can't afford it.
well actually I understand that and think its a nice idea too, but.. .. should not then as kind of a vote of the kickstarter backer of pa, choose mostly who gets the 5%? ... I think its kinda sad, because I have the feeling we wont reach all skretch goals, I even dont think we will reach the 1,5m skretch goal. When you calculate 10days * 30k + current pledges < 1,5m :/ PS: you said profit, do you mean profit of kickstarter? arent we far away from profit, because of the scratchgoals? or do you mean profit after kickstarter, when the game is released and on sale?
http://kickingitforward.org/ That should answer your questions. It's not talking about money from the kickstarter campaign, it's talking about money that PA has made once its produced.
That's not really the purpose of kickstarter. And I think it could be bad for the community: a lot of people would be here to comment on the game to make it a bestseller instead of a awsome game.
Arguably not generosity per se. I pledged without realising that i'd get a copy of the game thrown in, because of what I think the game is worth to me (actual value and monetary value rarely correlate). If I had a spare million dollars I would happily donate it, because not only would I consider it a justifiable amount based on the enjoyment I will get, it would mean that the game was that much better due to extra funding.
