I just bought it and downloaded it to steam. It was quite small so i thought there would be a lot of updating, or it was just the game manager, even though ive never seen that on steam. It is in my library as a normal steam game and when i click play it does absolutely nothing. Repeated clicks give me the message that "the app is already running"

First you need to do it's open task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and check if there PA.exe or CoherentUI_Host.exe running. If there any of them, kill processes and try to run it again.

You also need try to run game directly from installation directory:
    • Right click on game in Steam library
    • Properties
    • Local files
    • Browse local files
    • Run PA.exe
After you probably can get proper error or crash dump.

PS: You also might try to "Verify integrity of game cache".

K well were making progress apparently. There is nothing running to kill in processes or tasks, but when it went to run it directly from the installation directory it says that " The program cannot start because d3dc9_43.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem" Which i did and nothing has changed. I also verified the integrity.

Would reinstalling it to a different location somehow help?

Try installing the latest DirectX 9c package on your system. Windows 7/8 don't come with it and PA seems to need it at the moment.

Steam actually installs this as part of the first time setup process for a fair number of games so some people already have it.

Isn't there an Uber tech support team that you can contact for assistance? Or is this forum and its members it?

I'd hate to spend $90 on an alpha and not even receive dedicated tech support assistance.

You do realize that uber is like a 20 man team, right? And anyways, neutrino and garat and golus are always willing to help

I found Uber tech support quite efficient the one time I had to use them in regards to SMNC. They even gave me BDCTS for the trouble, not that anyone here knows what that is xD

Not until now. I do realize that if I were to spend $90 on software, I'd expect a fast response if I encountered problems with it.

No one is questioning the willingness of Uber staff to help. The comment was directed towards timeliness. Not one of those names you mentioned or any of the 20-man Uber team has responded in this thread to the OP in the 3 hours since he created this thread (to my knowledge).

That's NOT to say that they won't (they will). But they haven't yet and the OP is left "hanging".

I work in a field where 24/7/365 support and 20 minute or less response time SLAs are a normal thing. Trust me, those things cost an awful lot more than $90.

So, you are expecting a 20 man team to respond to each individual help thread all the while trying to make the game?

For $90, you better believe it.

And what would happen to that company's reputation if the SLAs were breached? Better hope that financial penalties weren't written into the SLAs as well.

AH-HAHAHA! Wow, ok. You keep telling yourself that. Try $9000 and you will be much closer.

    Bad things.

Actually there are financial penalties written into the SLAs. That's the whole point. Time is money.

Don't fall into the trap of assuming that you're paying $90 for something of equivalent value. That's an assumption that people funding Kickstarters often make, but in the case of KS, one is only paying money because they want to see the proposed product come to fruition. Anything they get out of it is meant only to be incentive for more people to back a product.

In PA's case, buying it on Steam or through Uber's store is only an extension of that concept. It only exists because people who might have backed the KS may have missed that opportunity, and are given the chance now, with the promise of some of the incentives that the KS backers had. (And at a price point that is fair to the previous backers.)

In short, you aren't paying for a product. You're paying to back a product with the incentive of being able to try it out early. One of the benefits happens to be that once the product is finally released, you will get a copy by default.

But until that point, you do not have a final copy of the game, and therefore, you don't really have any consumer rights to support just yet. Instead, you are the support to the developer, helping them find issues and getting them fixed. It doesn't matter how long it takes for an issue to be fixed, as long as it's fixed by the time the final product is released.

Recall that you are an ALPHA TESTER, which means that nothing is guaranteed for you. You've volunteered to do work, and in the process some derive enjoyment from this type of work. But don't delude yourself into thinking that you are owed anything at this stage of development, whether the development team consist of 20 people or 200.

Well apart from the random arguing and such, restarting my pc around eleven times apparently was the key. ........... >_<
