Just a quick question/idea

First post here. I'm an original backer from kickstarter, although I didn't buy the alpha. Minus the explosion effects and the optimization, I'm really REALLY liking the development of the game so farm, so kudos to Uber.

That said, I just have one idea. Will it be possible at some point in time to be able to play a map by yourself without other players or AI at all? Like, if you just wanted to test out a mod or units without having to worry about fighting?

Supcom let you do it, and I believe TA did as well (though I could be wrong, it's been many years). It was quite helpful with testing out configurations in those game.

I'm not complaining or asking it to be done right now this early in beta, but it would be a nice consideration for future builds.

Theoretically, you could play against 1 AI, and hold him off long enough to escape to the other planet. They can't get you there and you can do w/e you want.

I just realized that AI using orbital units and traveling to other planets is a terrifying prospect...

I always liked the idea of being able to select ownership of multiple army slots. Fill the two slots, then play the classic game of chess with yourself.

What you're asking for is essentially the 'Sandbox' game type, it classical has no win conditions, meaning you can start a game with only yourself, of course it terms of testing only having yourself available limits what you can test.

It'll come in time thought, frankly it's just not a priority right now.

I'll go a step further and say we can't have it right now.

For one very good reason: servers. Currently, Uber is hosting every server themselves. Every server that is played on without end is one less server that can be played by a group of people.

Once the community can put up their own servers, or run servers on their local computers, we should be able to do things like this.

I would like this. Already I kind of enjoy playing alone in my own way, just building up, creating your own military-industrial complex and massing up a huge army, SimCity-style sandbox gameplay. I understand this is not the focus of this game, but nevertheless.

Kind of unrelated, but one thing I really like about PA is its ambition and scale. I've been recently let down by some big budget games, namely the new SimCity and XCOM.. in my opinion, both new entries in these series were a step backwards. I would really love a SimCity game on this same scale, building up your megacities spanning several planets, building up interplanetary trade networks etc. PA and other kickstarter projects are exactly where I want to see PC games going.. more ambition, not less. I applaud Uber Entertainment for their grand vision for this game.
