When I start the game and haven't moved my mouse there is a green layer over the planet.

When I move my mouse the green thing disappears.

    Using:
    Windows 8.1 64bit
AMD Radeon 6490m GPU with swichable graphics and Leshcat's custom driver.
    Intel core i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz
    6GB RAM

Besides this the game runs just fine and I enjoy playing it.

The green shell is there to represent the orbital layer. Feature.

As @Nullimus said, the green is the orbital layer.

It pops back up when you're using orbital units.

Although the orbital layer is about to be updated with the next patch, so we'll see what changes.

It probably shouldn't be there when the planet initially loads though. The orbital layer stays the same and doesn't alter your spawn choices.
