Hello guys,Planetary Annihilation is lagging for me,from the start,no matter what settings I have. My pc is i7,HD 3GB video card,16 GB Ram,this doesn't make sense :|
what do you mean lagging? It is definitely not very good performance-wise right now, that is fore sure. Alpha and all If however you have like 3 fps from the start something is probably wrong.
Lags are not caused by your PC, but either by your Internet connection or by the server. If your PC was to slow, you would just get low FPS, but no lags. It is very likely, that the servers are currently a bit overburdened with weekend starting and all the new users from Steam. After all, the server farm is currently just designed for testing, the capacities are not sufficient yet to handle large numbers of users, this will change though if necessary.
It's not really lagging.I can smoothly look around the planet and the star system but when I zoom in and I want my commander,he simply laggs or something similar. I will make a short video regarding this.
For the most part I do not notice lag, but there are a few seconds every now and then even with my high end gaming rig and 50 Mbps fiber.
More perf for this card coming in the future btw. As for lag a video would be great. My GUESS is that you are behind time and that hitting the "end" key might solve the problem.
Game still lags on my Core2Duo, though not nearly as bad (it isn't able to keep up with the simulation after a certain period). On my new i7, it runs like a dream until about 35 minutes in, but I think it was other players starting to slow down, as I was keeping up with the sim speed.
It's only either YOU or the server which can slow down. Other players no longer have an impact on the performance with the server / client architecture. So you can no longer blame another player if the game starts lagging
To add to what neutrino said, if you have a GeForce 9xxx series GPU (9800, 9600, etc.), make sure virtual texturing is set to "low" in the settings screen. It might be able to handle "medium", but that tends to cause about a 10% performance hit. The "high" setting will use up more render target address space than those cards have available. (It's independent of how much raw memory they have.) That can cause some really bad performance problems, even with the improvements in the latest build. In its current state, the shadows can be pretty expensive on those cards, as well. You might want to try turning them off if you're still running slow.
Ok,I found which the problem was.I was uploading a video on youtube while playing and considering that my internet connection is pretty low the game was lagging. I also played without uploading a video at the same time and things went just fine.
