Moon Breakers, while a flawed game, was actually quite fun, and only had a few major issues, most of which could be fixed easily-ish. I read that Uber is maintaining the servers and said they "may" go back to it even though Imba is dead. I feel that given the recent-ish surge of space game popularity, Moon Breakers could become relevant with a few key modifications.

Modifications I think would make Moon Breakers fun:
    • Higher top speed (at least that of boost speed)
    • MUCH easier to get content (the game was WAY too pay-2-win in that respect)
    • More content (there weren't that many different ships, and the different ships weren't THAT different)
    • Cosmetics (I'd be perfectly fine with the majority of these being buyable only, although I'd like at least a few earnable)
    • More maps
That's all I can think of for now, but there are more for sure.

I understand if this is beating a dead horse, but Moon Breakers was actually a game I enjoyed to a degree.

Oh, it's still out there. You can still download and play it on Steam. :) I believe there is only one server available, but it's still running!

It will probably be like SMNC, maintained until a time there really is a much larger backing for a new game. Likely even when next gen engines are out to support it.

I mean, games are never really dead. Shimume 3, Megaman Legends 3 fan prototype, Renegade X, and Planetary Annihilation are all examples of that. Eventually, 7-10 years down the line, something happens, whether it is an IP sell off, a IP trades hands, an interest is sparked and it is either viable to the company, is crowdfunded so the company has no risk, or it is created as a fan-based non-profit spiritual successor.
