Don't hit me with your alpha stick or search stick (or any stick ), I know it's not visibly implemented and am suggesting the way I'd like it to work: When you go to put a blueprint down, it's free hand when you're not near any buildings (or areas you cannot place buildings) When you're near buildings (or areas you cannot place buildings) it snaps to the closest point from the cursor to maximise density Rotating the building free hand involves click-hold-rotate when you place it. Every subsequent placement of that building is at that orientation If you want to rotate the building and use snapping, click-hold-rotate on an area of the map you can't place the blueprint to set the orientation Seems the most elegant solution, probably very similar to what is planned anyway. In short a snapping mechanic of any kind is a good idea to maximise utilisation when space is tight. Whether it's a good idea to group buildings that close together is a matter for the player.
Not a bad idea. Though it will be interesting to see how rotation will affect the footprint. I'm guessing that metal extractors will snap to metal deposits as well. Only concern I'd have with either system is it might increase CPU overhead. It might not, too, hard to tell.
