... But this a rage thread! What the hell happened since last patch? I can't even. Seems like an economic opening fails, and these wicked tank pushes just rule the game... Get behind for a few secs in either production, taking an extra Mex or whatever, and you get overrun... Where are the bots? Where are the aircraft? it's all just tanks tanks tanks... Any opening i tried except vehicle first straight up fails, and if i survive the first 5 minutes, i'm apparently behind since the all out tank push my opponents use straight up kill me... It's not fun like this guys...
Do you set your commander to build defence buildings? Otherwise yes tanks are pretty good, although in a teamgame there will be people going bots/air first, covered by tank teammates.
Check the balance discussion forum and you'll see at least four rant threads about bots. And an economic opening is now to build a factory, then build fabbers and eco simultaneously.
Chill yo... The meta is different for everyone now that the commander has 30 metal by default, it takes a little time to get in the groove. Also: ladders.
The change to commander metal & energy generation simply removed the tedious process of going 3 mex / 1 energy every single time. That wasn't an "economic opening", it was the required build to stay competitive, and it was monotonous and boring. With the current change you can immediately start with the tech of your choosing, or rush T2, or go orbital. That tanks reign surpreme is another (balance) issue.
i said my post was a rage, how the others respond is entirely up to them ofcourse But still... I find the tank supremacy a bit stale
It´s because tanks are supposed to be the mass-destruction units, bots where made for raiding, so you´ve got to get them built quickly, and air is a lot of sniping/supporting/scouting.
Have to agree, anyways have you tried server balance mods? They are amazing. You should look up the Realm Rebalance mod or Stratera.
But they don't even fulfill that role... The time they take to destroy a building is just too long to call them "raiding" units. Harrass maybe, but raiding...?
Bombers are great, but best used sparingly to prevent the enemy from focusing on AA. Bombers from the fog are very powerful.
I've noticed that there aren't that much modded games available, or that they are mostly locked for people the host personally knows... I'm a bit afraid that if they see "MODDED" that they will inheritly think it's modded to suit the hosts needs... Anyways, maybe i'm a bit too paranoid, but i want the base game to be balanced... Mods and all is fun and games, but if there is to come a ladder, it will be without mods, and all about the base game...
Well I beat one of my clan mates yesterday thanks to early bombers- thing is they are only really effective against units unless you have lots of them. This means your best bet is to use them to snipe fabbers. It's not that fabbers are that expensive, where the *real* advantage is gained from doing that is two fold: 1: Your opponent has to re-queue everything his expander was set up to do (ofter quite a bit early game). 2: He will focus on making air of his own, or spamming AA towers, or making AA tanks. Bother of these things reduce his attention to what *your* ground forces are up to, and reduces the land based fire power density due to his need to include air defence. A big part of winning is controlling your opponent and leading them rather than letting them get the leg up on you. Bot's can also be useful early game but it is very map dependent. If you spawn close to someone then they are a no go, but if you have a decent amount of room between you and your opponent the sheer speed of dox and boom bots make then fantastic harassment tools (especially when combined with air). Add to that the fact you can easily go 2 factories first I would either start vec -> air (small map) or bot -> air (larger map- especially if there are trees for combat fab reclaim metal boost).
It's easier to "cheat" using an eco multiplier than mods Also from what I've seen most modded lobbies have people in who would gladly have more people come play with them
In the bottom right corner of a modded game you can see what mods are installed. This should help you paranoia a little. Also it may be a good idea to try them on your own as well.
