So some of you might (hopefully!) remember me back from the alpha. About a month or two ago my PC developed a hardware fault and after multiple BSODs I took it into my shop where it sat for a while cos I was too busy and unmotivated to repair it. Anyway, I got it fixed and gave it some upgrades and now I'm back, baby! Ready to jump back into PA and enjoy the latest build! I hear the AI is now super awesome thanks to Sorian, the graphics are improved, and area commands are coming soon?! I stopped reading the forums and joining #planetaryannihilation on irc.esper.net, but read the KickStarter updates now and then... Soooo what have I missed? Can't wait to play some games with you guys.
U missed a lot Read the build thread, it will help enlighten you If you haven't already. Also prepare to lose 8 or so hours playing some rounds. It's that awesome.
Welcome back! :-D Yeah, the build thread will give a quick overview of the new features: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/build-tracking-thread-updated-when-it-is.51585/ Some pretty cool new features! Area Commands are amazing, and the performance updates are pretty great.
Thanks Cat So i played one game against one AI opponent last night, on a size 2 planet. I won comfortably, but the AI has definitely improved. Constant attacks, but only from one direction. I focused on expansion and static defense and eventually won by scouting the AI commander with some hummingbirds, nuked him, and finished him off with some nearby ants. It was awesome It runs a lot smoother and seems to be prettier, although I have most of the settings except for textures turned down/off (I'll see how pretty I can make it upon release!). I skimmed the build update thread last night but by golly, there's a lot of text to read! I'll read it carefully soon
if you have more ram, you should try to set a new record for non-0 height range planet scale in the Planet size contest thread. all you have to do is edit the value in "system_editor.js" at "PA\media\ui\alpha\system_editor\"
6400, it's what 310 would correspond to in the current size system. I tried 10000 but i failed, i get a crash from PA. I'm going to try some overclock and virtual ram tweaks but it just seems that sometimes virtual ram won't cut it and that we're hitting hard limits with the engine. but I only have 16gig so I'm persuaded you could do better. just a preparation tip, make sure you do it off of a clean reboot, after having set all your hard drives to have virtual ram, especially if your main drive is an ssd. In which case it won't be enough at all.
