I for one couldn't be happier. I was a little worried when the TF2 related stuff appeared, but this latest addition is bang on what I had hoped for. The new outfits don't break up the character's original looks, it doesn't make what team they're on hard to distinguish, and they look great! Good job, this is exactly what I want to see more of. Additionally, my face upon seeing the update:
Very happy with this myself, it's everything the TF2 promotional gear wasn't. It fits wonderfully with the original art style.
Subtle appearance changes like this are okay, but I just hope we don't go overboard. Someone somewhere posted a picture of the default TF2 demoman next to a ridiculously customized demoman with a stupid hat, disco glasses, etc. The caption was something like "Demoman Original vs. Demoman Today" (props to anyone who can find this image, I thought it was hilarious ) Anyway, hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about, and the point is I hope Uber doesn't go THAT far with the cosmetics. Let's see new maps instead edit: Never mind, I found it: Hopefully it never comes to this
Stout Shako 2 refined. I disagree, but only a little tiny bit. The Demoman's cap and eyepatch actually look pretty damn good on the assault and don't detract from the art style at all. The Tank's pyro mask isn't bad but not great either. The same with the Gunner's ammo belt. The Sniper/Assassin/Support pretty much suck (the Support wouldn't be too bad if they got rid of the helmet which looks ugly on him.) So I'm kinda torn. Ultimately though I wouldn't mind all of them going away cept the Assaults, who is pretty awesome.
No-one would make the Demoman look like that anyway. That's just someone going to extremes to prove a point.
I love the new retro and beta player gear and I like most of the TF2 crossover stuff. The Spy's mask doesn't fit too well imo but that couldn't be helped. And I won't wear the Supports gear because that bright yellow hardhat just screams: 'Put a bullet right here!' The hat and eyepatch for the Assault fit perfectly and I wear the ammo belt on my gunner almost every match.
I got the assassin tag for using the TF2 gear like...yesterday since it's so horrible I never bothered to enable it.
That "Demopan" picture was actually from a killcam where it all started from. And the TF2 characters tend to look like they are on their way to some carnival all the time. But I love the way UberEnt implemented the Gear stuff. They nicely do little modifications to the already great character outfits that adds variety to the game.
They are going on the right track for class aesthetic customization so far. By what all the developers have been saying, it's going to stay on that path. It seems they have the message loud and clear to make their own mark and to not go completely off the wall.
rofl whatever. I've seen so many TF2 hat/weapon/etc combos that looked like they're fresh out of a carnival. This is just one example of many.
I've seen vastly more people who aren't wearing gaudy bits. Most people are trying for a specific look. Only a rare few want to look bad. The Demopan is an especially stupid meme, and the graphic itself is a grainy, low res shot of the character in a ridiculous position. By far, most people are happier with TF2's customization features than not. That's why they're popular features!
i dont see as many who are upset with tf2 customization looking bad, as i see those who dislike how far its gone. too many gameplay-changing things, and the customizations have gotten too far from the point. i still like them a bit, but as someone who played tf2 for xbox, and didnt realize till 2 years later that the steam version actually had updates since the xbox version, i can see the BIG difference in gameplay. MNC can focus on less dynamic gameplay-changing add-ons, and more add-ons that add to the look, sound, and contributes to gameplay without fluxing balance. new costumes are ok, to the point that they arent the central focus and everybody isnt trying to boost for them. id rather them think about adding hardcore weapon additions and changes. new maps and gameplay modes wouldnt be too bad. you know, things that contribute and fix the game, not change it into something else.
Is there going to be certain equipment changes you could buy with extra money? On Xbox I have all the custom classes and protags I need, and am sitting with like $1,000,000 not doing anything. I'm not eligible for the current ones, but want some outfits in the future.
I haven't seen a single game company manage a cash shop RIGHT. As in "just sell cosmetics" and not from "You can play 1 hour and get this gameplay element" to "Oh, you can play 50-500 hours to get this gameplay element(Because we want to sell stuff in the store, so we coerce you) or pay 10$ for it". They always limit the players who didn't pay the atrocious store fees when faced to newer gameplay elements, always start from "Oh, it's okay, we're not selling power", only to remove that clause 6 months later because they started doing the complete opposite after they realized they can nickel and dime the customer. But I definitely like the way MNC goes with customization, as long as it doesn't lead to gameplay selling cash shops selling this single Assault weapon 10$.
