Parents don't know enough to help, sister isn't on facebook to help, and the back of the book only has the answer.

I keep trying to cancel out the xy, but when I simplify everything after applying the new x and y terms, it doesn't.

If it helps, I got theta to be 60 degrees, and if you want to see my work I'll put it in the equation creator.

this is the headache we all endure in grade 12 of high school advanced gifted math which is completely useless to the world but gets you a diploma

I'm only a junior, and I plan on going into computer science, so it will probably used there.

    ^this.

I did this stuff. Didn't particularly find a use for it. It's mainly for engineers.

    Anyhow, i'll look into it.

How I got to where I am:

    (2(v3)y)-(2(v3)xy)=-2x
The 2v3 and y can be subtracted, leaving only x.

    2x-2x=0
    you get rid of x.

    leaving you with this:

    3x+y=0

    or

    -3x=y

looks like a equation for a circle or something.

I am sick today, i'm not making excuses, I just can't remember what context to use any of this in. Hope the crunching helped?

Seems like it could work, but the way my teacher is going to check my homework is if I get x' and y' by finding what (A-C)/B is, then setting cot(2 theta) equal to that, then applying theta to the two equations x = x'cos(theta) - y'sin(theta) and y = x'sin(theta) + y'cos(theta) and then put the new values for x and y back into the original equation and simplify it.

Actually now that I look at it, you got a degenerative conic, which isn't the answer sadly, if you got the equation equal to anything but 0 it would be a normal conic I'm guessing.

If looking at that equation gives you a headache, Computer Science isn't for you. I dropped out after a month and a half :p

    Get Jack to help you

It isn't giving me too big of one, I'm just failing to see what I did wrong.

Also I'm taking an AP Computer Science class right now and I'm liking it and I haven't had too much trouble considering our teacher doesn't really do much.

Don't listen to them. If you like computer science, bust your *** a bit. If a lot of people busted their *** at math as much as they did video games, there wouldn't be a problem.

Although, i'm lucky; I slept through most classes and didn't do homework, and still understood enough to teach myself and get B's on tests.

Anyhow, if that wouldn't plug in correctly, then I need to know the context of the problem better apparently. So, what is the overall solution you're trying to find?

So you need a circle and not a (whatever the hell vx=y makes on a grid, i'm too sick to remember)? Maybe I did something wrong then. No, I actually stand by what I did because there isn't any other way to simplify radicals like that, so I don't know.

What DOES the back of the book say?

Back of the book says x' = -y'^2

So, it's precal formulas. I can look some things up to jog my memory, but that's about all I can do.

    Also, 60deg is p/3, and 120deg is 2p/3. Why aren't y'all using radians?

Because my calculator was set to degrees at the time being.

It may help you but its better to learn c+ and java etc.. most of them are just variables but I guess some of this could be used. If you going into software programming rather then hardware then its used alot more.

Still unless your getting into programming/engineering its not that practical.

Kind of like when i went to college I had radio/tv/film and if you failed one course you can't stick with what you want to pursue in. I loved tv but hated film/photography. In college you also have all these courses which can hinder you like.. History of radio/etc, journalism, english media, etc.. basically all these null courses which don't help you much with editing or filming etc. Most of them are money grabbers and dead end careers.

Not saying everything in college/uni is but most people have no clue of the workfield out there and want dream jobs which are diminishing in the world.

Why I like the idea of taking vocational courses. Although, personally I usually don't mind classes that teach useless stuff. Though, normally i'm able to answer this stuff.

Yet, I never continued on with this stuff after high school. I'd rather not do college, albeit that i'm fairly good. IDK, I think a computer school would be cool, but what i'm heading torwards is police academy.

If your going into the police field your going to need good law skills and english. Also the ability to control yourself in certain mental and phsyical situations. My cousin is a RCMP and he told me a few stories that he had to endure. Pepper spray/tassers/battons/combat all used against you and if you can't handle it they drop you out.

Not quite sure how the police field is in your area but you get what im talking about..
    Almost like initiation in fraternities.

I was ready to join the marines. Their basic training is a lot worse. Being subjected to a gas chaimber, where you find out how being gased feels like and learn to operate masks and such after it's already released, is worse.

Tasers and pepper spray are just incompacitators. Nothing impossible for someone to get through.
