I sorta miss the days of beta...when every update the balance got flipped on it's head. It was great. It was fun discovering each updates quirks, getting good at it, and around when I started taking a break from pa. BAM UPDATE. I also liked the t2 rushing and nuke spamming. It felt awesome. *sigh* Nostalgia Thanks scathis for the Balance...journey?..ride?... some term that escapes me right now and i'm too lazy to figure out what it is? (btw please notice the sorta and I do like how balance is starting to settle...more..ish)
How did you like the t2 rushing and nuke spamming, just wondering.. Also if your looking to try different types of balance look at some balance mods they can shake up the way the game works dramatically.
I agree with the OP, constantly changing and learning new strats for tournaments was fun. Installing mods isn't quite the same... it feels like cheating somehow. I have the same experience with Civilization 5. Whenever there's patch/expansion I get right back into it again, learning the mechanics and new exploits and mods feel like cheating in that too because the AI aren't balanced for them etc. Sure you can play multiplayer but it's hard to find enough random people willing to play a random mod that neither of you know is any good.
So yes, lets all just go back to the even worse balance where stuff was utter crap. yaaay. I'd really like to see a proper balance rather than the old random changes every two seconds..
Ummm, that's not what I was saying at all. I was simply saying that learning new starts for new balance is fun. Repeating a dominant strategy over and over once you've learned everything backwards is less fun.
I was trying to make a point that we should be pushing for a balance where there is NO dominant strategy where all kinds of manners of strats are viable making the game very fun rather than just exploiting one or two things. That way you get this feeling of "new" every time you play.
Getting a better balanced game via community members with many years of experience is somehow "cheating"? What? I don't even...
It would be excellent if Uber discussed with the community on balance more, and being more of a combined effort by Uber and the community for balance, rather then the entire balance scene being split into 2, uber going their own way and community modding theirs. We dont even see why Garat increases bot vision radius and if he actually knows that many people in the community hate dox balance anyways.
