Hello,Uber dudes (I don't know what I should call you guys)

    I have some questions.

    1. Will I be able to make videos on youtube without you UberEnt/you suing me? if yes, then will I be able to make videos of the alpha without them/you being angry?
(for makers ->)and if no, then I suggest you let people make videos on youtube because planetary annihilation will get more known, just like minecraft!

2.If there will be a galaxy then would multiple battles impact on the performence (not my performance, I have a gaming PC, but most of my friends don't and if there is lots of us then it might/will get a little crazy).

3.If there is a galaxy for you to conquer then will there be a limit to the total number of the units? If yes, do you have a idea how many, but before you answer consider that ITS A GALAXY it has to have at least 50,000+ total units, which perhaps wouldn't be rendered while you zoom out/switch to galaxy map. (500+ per planet/2000+ per solar system )(Don't be angry at me for this question I am not a computer genius, so I put 50,000+)

4.Will I be able to make my own server, like in minecraft where you download a server and run it (and portforward your IP so it would work... ETC).Or will it be more complicated?

5.(For UberEnt ->)I know this will be hard for you but, would you do livestreams at least every 2 weeks (or more :D ), I think everyone would like that.

6.Do you think UberEnts/your servers will be enough or will it be a fail like SimCity where it takes ages to load, and the servers crash (ETC)

I hope you can help me answer those questions, I don't expect anyone apart from UberEnt to answer 5 and 3 but the rest you might have some answer :D

    1. Videos during the alpha? Doubt that, usually you have to agree to a NDA in order to participate in the Alpha. So you may only publish videos if the NDA allows you to do so.
Making other videos which make use of PA lore or art, but don't violate the NDA shoudln't be much of a problem, though it would be better to ask Uber for permission before you use their content.

    2. Multiple miss-asumptions at once. There will be a galactic battle mode, but that is more like a campaign with multiple maps, there WON'T be a full galaxy but a single solar system at most in a single game. The game also uses a client/server-approach whereby only the server needs to do all the heavy computations. The client will also run on rather slow machines without to many problems.

    3. There will be no hard unit limit, at least none which you are likely to hit. Also, it's not a full galaxy at once, it's only one solar system after another, you can't just switch out to galactic screen. The server architecture is designed to handle as many units as possible, more than SupCom could ever do.

    4. It will be as simple as that. You actually need a local server (you don't need to configure it) if you want to play in LAN or singleplayer (vs. AI).

    6. They will be sufficient. If not, everyone should be able to provide additional private servers to enhance the capacities.

1 - Yes, you can. Nobody can hide anything with this size of audience anyway.
2,3 - As far as I know, One map = One solar system. Galaxy is just a way to logically connect multiple missions to create singleplayer campaign.
4 - Yes. You don't even need internet connection.
6 - It's not always online, why would they crash? And why would you care if they do?

Where is Mike? I would have assumed he would have eaten the OP alive by now and be chewing on the bones.

Every single one of these questions have been answered and discussed at length. Is it me or have the PA forums (both this and the backers) been inundated with what sounds like 13 year-olds? I guess school has been let out for most places by now.

This has gotten way beyond lazy posters not bothering to search. Take a look (if you have the stomach) at some of these ridiculous threads that have shown up lately:
How does one annihilate a planet..?
When you first log into the game, what will be your desire?
    How would tast PA?
Some ideas for the game! thanks UBER I LOVE TA

UberEnt won't sue you. We'll make our lawyers do that for us.
Current plan is people are allowed to put up videos with the cravat that we will retain the right to request specific videos be pulled if the need arises. There will be big "ALPHA GAMEPLAY" text on the screen someplace most likely.

Our aim is to melt computers with this game, so unless you have the most recent hardware we won't even let you play the game.
There are a lot of different forum threads on performance or required specs for the game. The ones listed on Steam for the Alpha are intentionally inflated over what we expect the final game to require due to the unoptimized nature of an alpha build of the game. Yes, multiple battles will have a performance impact, of course, but most of the performance impact of multiple battles across different planets should be on the server and not for each client as each client is only dealing with rendering what they can see. Most RTS games every player is calculating every unit and all games have to stay in sync, which means everyone slows down to the slowest player's machine. Our game will not.

We're limiting the unit count to 100, total, across all players, including the buildings and commanders. One technique will be to build as many cheap units as possible to "reserve" spots early.
No explicit unit cap. No explicit planet cap. No explicit caps of any kind apart from those imposed by your computer's hardware.

We don't have the full instructions down for how to setup servers, but I do know it'll include live sacrifices and possibly the promise of giving us your first born.
Should be along the same lines of setting up a server for Minecraft or any first person shooter from the 2000s.

The live steams are a lot of work. Eventually we're thinking of just looping the kickstarter pitch video, live stream intro video, and funny gifs we find on our forums for an hour each week.
We do videos as regularly as we can, usually when we have something to show. They've been good ways to direct production goals as well. They do however ligitimately take quite a bit of work to do, beyond the 2-4 people on camera there's a number of people behind the scenes running the stream and setting it up for the hours leading up to and after the actual stream that could otherwise be doing work on the game itself, not to mention the time spent by others in the office trying to answer questions on the forum or in the live stream chat.

We recently upgraded our server farm to use two hamster wheels instead of one for power generation. We should be fine.
There will be some issues, I'm sure. There always are for any new game. There's no way to test a system under the load of thousands of players with out actually having thousands of players. We have some experience with dealing with this for SMNC so hopefully it'll be a little smoother. Besides, the game will have a local play and people are able to run their own servers even if our servers go down.

    Glad to be of help.

 My keyboard and monitor are saved by the fact that I wasn't drinking anything when I read this one.

Can we please think of having something like this as a game mode? Maybe have a 50 unit reserved count per player and then a 150 * (number of players) overall additional cap shared by all players? This would be hilarious!

Thanks, I like that you made it fun to read

Um, I'm polish so I didn't quite understand the "There will be big "ALPHA GAMEPLAY" text on the screen someplace most likely." Does it mean that we will have to put ALPHA GAMEPLAY on our screen? I don't mind as long as it will not cover the full screen. And will there be things that you would like to keep as secret? (well, at least for alpha and beta time :D )

Thank you for your time, I know you probably get people like me 24/7 so I understand its annoying so Im sorry

The text will be on the screen in game at all times. Just up in the corner out of the way, probably with a version number. You won't need to add it yourselves.

This is an outrage! Classic BS hidden in the fine-print.

I only have neck ties in my wardrobe but now I have to go out and buy some fashion throwback before I can post videos? :p
