So I was thinking of how we could make teleporters and interplanetary gameplay more interesting and thought of this. What if there were a t1 and t2 teleporter. T1 could only link up to planets/ moons that orbit each other or are within a certain distance. Then the T2 teleporter could link up to any other planet that you control/ have the majority of troops on. This would cause more in depth strategy of moon control rather than just for smashing and or getting more resources. Also moving moons to orbit enemy controlled planets would allow for better invasion staging. Please leave any thoughts on this idea. Thanks for reading!
What would that certain distance be? I would think that if this were to happen you might want to have T2 Teleporters link everywhere you have a teleporter and T1 teleporters to link to in an orbiting planet system. I doubt that this will become a reality though, because there might be a few complications: 1. I have a solar system where a moon orbits a moon orbiting a moon orbiting a moon orbiting a moon orbiting a moon orbiting a planet. 2. Much programming, will be very buggy 3. Might not be so good in vanilla game-play 4. Teleporters presumably link in another dimension, 1 place to another, it also presumably wouldn't be much more difficult to fold space 100 km than 10,000,000 km
i see no depth in that but just needless complexity for something we already have .. basicly lets have a bad and good version of a teleporter ... wow ... (no offense) resourcecontrol or preparing a WMD can be done through various ways not just teleporting ... adding 2 versions of teleporters with the current ballance would be redundant ... also would force players to go t2 giving early expanders or defenders a significant advantage against invasions
this is a good idea and been suggested multiple times. I also have my own thread on this : https://forums.uberent.com/threads/iterate-on-the-gate-teleporter.62599/
Sadly, it seems that the vocal majority are satisfied with the gate mechanics. At least previously; I don't think that has changed either. Having a T1 teleporter for same-gravity well only and a T2 for anywhere in the system could be cool, but I'm not sure of it would make things better or just confuse then more.
what you generaly want is to be able to play as flexible as needed to expand and secure territory and also be able to engage the enemy quick enough ... limiting the teleporter would make defending planets much easier as you take away the ability to engage sooner also increase the ammount of downtime between engagements ...
it's not that big of a limit though. t2 is like what 7, maybe 8 minutes tops? what you NEED to go cross-Solar-System in the first SECONDS of the game?
depends all on traveltime something which you can not affect while in a match and can be enough for your opponent to repel your harrasing attack coming from a non orbiting mainplanet ... also that are 8 minutes were nothing is happening but building you are talking about ... and yes being able to contest enemy teritory requieres you being able to attack as early as possible you are already limited to not be able to scout without an orbital launcher it only makes sense to built a propper teleporter at that stage by then ...
I'd like to have a T2.5 ish orbital Teleporter and a naval teleporter. Besides that, though? It's fine. The balance is okay right now and additional complexity isn't necessary.
