How about orbital platforms to put land units to fight on?

Also one thing that irritates me is that the jig's "arm" is just barely touching the surface, it should be clipping slightly so it actually looks like it is going inside the gas-giant

The big problem with gas giants is that they don't look like gas. It's just a ball with a flat texture. It needs to have some depth.

I unno, considering art style of the game and real pictures of gas giants, it'd say they are exactly how they should look in this game.

To me, problem is that they are actually big and you can place tons of jigs for infinite economy. As those are giants, you can't make them smaller. Solution would be making jigs bigger :D So you can place fewer of those on gas giant.

Making the model big would look awkward; increasing placement size would work better.

Or play against people who aren't silly enough to let you spam Jigs.

It needs to have different layers of cloud, so the Jig's extractor vanishes into the murky depths of the sky (It'sagasgiantsothatmakessenseshaddup). Like this:

    Something like this?

I like the current gas giants, but some animation would be awesome. These ones are too flat atm, but its only a sneak-peek, so I doubt its done.

There should be a nice spinning swirlpool where the jig's shaft touches the surface of the gas.

Also why has nobody mentioned this?

Could just make them control points like the Catalysts. Neat way of limiting them, while you could give the system designer control over the number. Given that you can't even place metal extractors anywhere on metal planets (which I think you should be able to), the resource control point approach is in line with the rest of the game.

Currently, they are animated but it's quite subtle.

Rings would have to fade as soon as you get over the planet so you don't have them in the way. It may be a nice visual addition, but Uber have higher priorities IMHO.

I just want to take this opportunity to say I think the jig model and animation looks really awesome, well done art team.

Gas giants could use some spicing up though, storms or lightning would be a good addition.
