How to Fix Balance

    Tiblolan and I were having a discussion on steam.

    in reference to the mod tools:

    Also, potentially cause assault bomb to only cool down half way while deployed, and use the old recharge rate for it (which was slower).

    I'd have no problem with any of this. I never really understood why armor was nerfed to begin with. It's easier to kill good light and medium players, and no harder to kill bad ones. Not that I think the game should be balanced to help bad players out, at all.

    Best fix for balance is mods, period. That's pretty much the tl;dr, so you can skip my wall of text if you like

    If we had mod tools you could run a server the way you wanted and see if it was balanced. If it isn't then you change the setting until it is. Things have a way of working themselves out when you can change them to suit your needs.

    Changes big or small can have a huge impact on balance. Continuous playtesting is the best way to work them out. Mods let people do that. Your suggestions may work, I dunno, but mods>any balance change we can come up with.

    There are quite a few experimental balance changes I'd like to try, and without mod support I cant.

    Removing arm times for bombs(allowing mid throw detonations) and bringing back the old recharge timer, changing the ways charges/lunges effect speed, Bringing back the old jets(because I've never used them), bolt action sniper rifle with bodyshot damage restored(possible RoF decrease, not sure), and above all else, a reskinned katana to look like giant bacon, and a churro dagger to go with it.

    None of these are going to go through without playtesting, and honestly it would be a waste of time for Uber to try these out without evidence to support that they work well because of how drastic the changes would be. If they work I can propose Uber add them as defaults(or as server options). I'd most likely get turned down, but I'd like a shot at trying first.

    Also, revoking a previous change is huge. I don't see the old armor system coming back. I wish I did, but I don't. Same with jets.

    tl;dr Mods fix balance best, period. And sorry for the wall of text.

    If you revert gunner / tank jet packs they need to have accuracy loss similar to the assaults.

    The assault doesn't necesarily have accuracy loss. Seen them shoot whilst hovering? Also, how to you decrease jetgun accuracy?

    The jetpacks don't actually make too much of a difference. I get along just as good, once I realize I can't jump immediately. Would be a nice luxury to have it back to the xbox version. Isn't like the nerfs actually nerfs too much, it just is a bother, not a nerf. Anyone with skill can still bunnyhop effectively, if that was their goal.

    The assault bomb, however, is a bad idea on top of charge cooldown nerf. If they got their charge cooldown back, then I could see an overall 20% decrease in bomb damage. The horrible thing would be that it would no longer instagib light classes, but charges still do anyway so meh. They would still accomplish their goals: to sit as a trap to deter enemies from crossing from danger of health drop, to soften targets for a gun-down by dropping their health, to finish enemies (fire would still be effective), and to bomb-jump (it would actually buff bomb-jumps?).

    I'll hold my vote, because it is a good idea, and it is a bad idea. It has bits of both.

    EDIT: Ask for mods, I do like mods, but most like 99.9% of player stuff should really not be added to default game. C'mon, just cuz you like it, doesn't mean it isn't whine-nerf, OP, broken, or just messed up. Personal servers, sure. As long as the game doesn't get broke in a way I have to pay for a server and advertizement in order to play a fixed version of a game gone broken.

    Once again you show your lack of knowledge Bro.

    BAL_FLY_SPREAD_MOD=1.5 -- When flying your accuracy drops by FIFTY PERCENT.

    You can do a lot to help counter it by zooming (which increases your accuracy by 25%) but even then you are still losing a lot of accuracy. Now the accuracy loss is less noticeable if you are using accuracy endorsements because you have a smaller loss (of course you also have a smaller gain from zooming)

    You don't lose accuracy while jumping, but if you hover you do lose a lot. This isn't that noticeable with the Grenade launcher though since its acccuracy is so good already.

    As for tank and gunner, just have the railgun accuracy by A LOT and then have a 50% accuracy loss with the minigun. This makes it similar to how the assault really is only affected with 1 of his weapons.

    Uber already has mod support in the works. The second they announce it being dropped I'm leaving this game. Mods add player retention, a sense of control, and fun.

    I never would have bought it if mod support weren't promised early on. I stick with it because I enjoy the game enough to wait.

    I get the whole mod tools thing, but that takes time.

    Also, everyone keep in mind that it was the armor nerf patch which started causing issues with air grapples, which are still present to this day, though less severely than they were before the fix.

    Just tonight I was back grappled while half way up a jump pad on steel peel to the ring outside red base. The animation took place half way up, so I know it wasn't just lag or anything, either.

    I was actually talking about serious accuracy. Yes, the reticle is bigger. If you played assault, you actually find that you can't tear up someone while in hover, especially upgraded?

    That might be a good idea, make accuracy better as fly is upgraded. Losing accuracy from jumpjets for heavies, however, is not. It already gets criticism for limitimg jumpjets when snipers are bitched about so badly.

    I liked how mods/mutators were handled in UT2004 and KillingFloor
    If the mod/mutator changed the core gameplay too much, it wouldn't get whitelisted
    In 2k4 not being on the whitelist just made it so that the server couldn't be listed as "Standard"
    In KillingFloor, the use of a non-whitelisted mutator meant that players couldn't level their perks

    As long as they release a MNC-UnrealEd that can at the very least make maps, I'm happy
