How is the work with making a replacement for "minimap" going on?

ok so the planets looks very good now, and the performance is just getting better and better...but the main thing i still miss for making the game fun to play and actually have controll of your enviroment is some kind of minimap type like we had in supcom.

sure you can go on and zoom in and out to several places to look if some units have entered your radar range, but i liked to have the security of the extra screeen or minimap to show you when enemy units arrive. and not having to rely of burning your zoom wheel on the mouse.

surely it is not a problem to zoom in and out all the time, but it is unecesarry micro, and i feel that you need to zoom in and out all the time if you dont want to have this surprise there are units in your base feeling..the radar might give huge range for unit detection, but having to manually zoom out and track them is just a pain in the ***

The 'Alert' UI is probably something that will be coming down the line a little later on into Beta, as would be a lot of the UI improvements.

EVA - "Base Under Attack" "Powerplant Under Attack" "Refinery Under Attack" "Factory Under Attack"

Currently though, there ARE camera position hotkeys. Ever try regularly setting up on 4 directions of the planet saved as camera positions, and after you do a few tasks with your base you quickly cycle through all 4 and then go back to your base?

I think just having a second screen that can be locked into viewing one position would be a big help. Maybe a second screen that is spit into 3 or 4 different views that you can lock or move around.

I think the one thing people don't get about multiple views or Camera positions is that they require you to render something the same amount of times that you have separate screens.

Notice how PA runs at about 2 FPS on a mid-high grade graphics card at the end of a match. Now multiply that by however many screens you have open.

Arguably there is going to be a lot more optimization in the future. However, there will also be a lot more planets in the future.

No, i literally meant hotkey camera angles, flip through them like tv channels.

Ask for warning system, i like the idea of enemy units having a visibly bright flash and their icon having a visibly bright flash when first discovered, and your own units and unit icons bright flashing when they come under attack. Less repetitive voice warning, more noticeable when watching over a planet.

Yes I'm looking forwarad to something like this. Although I can't help but think that the mini-map is going to have to be a mini-globe, with separate controls to spin it.

Of course, with a second screen, you can have it permanently zoomed out. But again, separate controls to view/spin the globe would surely be necessary.

It would certainly make your radar more useful.

when talking about an alert system, I still like the idea of having a list of past and current alerts, where you can jump between their respective locations and back to the location you started from.
Should be easy enough to implement and deal with many different "overview" issues.
With the chronocam you could even store timestamped links to review what happened at the time of the alert.

One of the advantages of a list with history is, that you can be a bit more verbose in terms of alert description and severity of the alert itself in comparison to singular audio/visual signals.
