I'd be more inclined to cringe because it's G4, but to each their own.

Just out of curiosity, why is this a blow to her self-respect?

Not starting anything here, I just honestly dont see it.
I think a trip across America (depending on where she lives), staying in a fancy hotel, making a little chump change, being around like-minded gamers, and seeing all the shows/exhibitions related to games would be fun.
