So I'm probably doing something wrong, but when I try to run a game against an AI (and I had to research how to do this) there simply isn't one. I mean I start the game, and there's an AI listed beneath my player name, but unless the commander is just hiding in a hole somewhere and won't come out, there doesn't seem to be an AI opponent. Also, this wasn't just a one-time occurrence. I haven't really sunk my teeth yet into the alpha, just poked around a bit, so I'm probably not the most informed. Any insight would be appreciated
Hey welcome to the forum! you may wanna head over to http://www.twitch.tv/uberchannel the livestram will start in http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20130913T13&p0=234&msg=PA Livestream)
Sometimes AI spawns blocked or just don't have metal spots nearby, then it's do nothing. Just try to play on other biomes like earth one where this happen less often.
Thanks! Moments after posting this (of course) I finally did discover the AI, who was indeed hiding in a hole, or in this case a puddle-sized lake. I've actually only tried out earth-like planets, but it still seems kinda weird that they're getting stuck every time. Regardless, now I know I'm not just crazy One thing I did notice upon finding the commander was that even though he was only knee-deep in the water, my land units were unable to attack him. He could still hit me, and killed everything while they just glared at him in frustration (I'm guessing). Not the original topic, I realize, but thought I'd bring it up anyways. Keep up the awesome work Uber!
Yeah it's a known bug, generally to do with path-finding I think; AI commanders sometimes get stuck, so nothing gets built and you don't get the usual bomber attacks (which is all the AI currently does right now).
