OOOkkkk. So I am currently working on a gunner guide, with a few new tips and tricks, and I realized something. I hate gunner grapple. Everything the gunner does has to do with people being away from me, why do I want to attack them close range. Besides, I have mortar alt grapple, what more do I need? Tank and Assault, two similar classes, have a red skill that helps them escape and do damage because they have jetpacks. THe gunner has a jetpack, let him charge. Don't freak out, I'm kidding. That would be crazy delicious. In all seriousness, what about making the red skill jump. Lvl one boosts the gunner up to low bridges, like the middle bridges on lazer razer. Lvl two increases the height, like from the ground to the middle ring on Steel peel. And lvl 3 propels you very high, like to be able to reach all bridges. When you jump your jet pack burns anyone around you for some health, not alot, but enough to be annoying. You will not be able to use your jetpack once you jump, but limited mobility will be available to be able to reach ledges. Also, with lvl 2 and 3 slam, when you slam from a lvl 3 jump the slam damage is increased, because you are slamming from a higher ground. THis only works when you use jump, not when you slam from other ledges in the game. I would leave this up to the developers to... ummm... develop, I think it is a neat idea. Anyways, what do you all think?
Wait, you spend $550 on a skill that you use to grapple bouncers when you have a free grapple on the mortar? Why? Btw, I like the idea with the jump very much! It would give the Gunner some of the mobility along the Z axis back (PC version). This would be worth upgrading!
Mortar grapple is almost worthless against bouncers. You take about 3 seconds of 0 mobility to take out about half the health of the bouncer. With grapple three, you instantly kill the bouncer, if it's overhealed it is sent flying away from you, all in about half a second. Seriously, he starts off the animation swinging his baseball bat. Also, grapple 3ing bots gets you a nice amount of juice.
I never even needed to wrestle with a bouncer unless he has a teammate in his paws. I use my minigun and jump over their grapple. If you need more time, just run backwards. Grapple 3 might come in handy on Spnky because Bouncers spawn constantly, but I wouldn't get it on any other map. Now being able to hop on a platform without using the jumppads, that would be worth $550 for me. It would be awesome on Grenade III, Steel Peel and Spnky.
Gunner Grapple 3 is the most useful skill a GUnner has. It insta-KO assassins and snipers (unless running armor) and is amazing at counter-grappling. After all, when they grapple you and the animation is finished, you are face-to-face, even with back grapples. So just Grapple 3 right back at them and insta-kill or kill in mid-air. And even if it doesnt send them away (walls, etc.) Chain Slam with it and even armored assassins will die and unarmored assaults. You already can.
Good advice thank you! Right now I have Assassins pretty much under control in the PC version even without grapple. However that might change in the future when they lunge first. Hmm, guess I have to watch out for some stepping stones then. We got our wings clipped on the PC though. No chain jumping.
Try using your jetpack "late." Instead of using right off the ground try to get some forward momentum first then use your jetpack to propel you back up and forth. Jumps that seem almost impossible for the Gunner are now easier then imagined.
The Gunner Grapple is, in my opinion, his best skill to upgrade aside from Passive. It can be used to chain-grapple juicers, kill slightly weakened or armorless enemies, remove enemies from the battle by throwing them away, getting ring outs. It was already said, but using a level 1 or 2 grapple before a slam on almost any class aside from Tank or Gunner will almost always result in a kill. I almost always have my grapple at at LEAST level 2, every single game. People underestimate crowd control in this game, and it makes me sad.
I will, thanks for the tip! I don't. I had some very good crowd control results with the Tank. Charge and grapple are a combination that works very well together. The problem with the Gunner is that I usually can't get close enough for a grapple on any class but an Assassin. A juiced Gunner or Tank will just cut trough you like a hot knife through butter. You can use slam on them but then they are out of reach again. I've watched Hudson's (I think) video about CC with the Tank, is there a video that shows how to do it with a Gunner?
There aren't a whole lot of Gunner videos out there, sadly. The trick to catching a juiced player with your grapples is to just wait for them to engage something else. People get cocky when they're juiced, use that to your advantage.
Yup, Gunner needs a buff on Youtube as well... So true, I have some personal experience in that area... *whistle* Thanks!
It should be noted that this works for crowd controlling against Juiced players on any class, not just Gunner. The difference is, with a gunner you're so big that it's almost a necessity.
