"Seriously. I would like to see an RTS for the old-fogey crowd in which the game plays out slowly enough that the player can really take a reasonable amount of time to do things. Dunno how slow that would need to be, but it’d be nice if somebody experimented."

I'm not even an old fogey and I'd enjoy this.

Anyways, what thinks you guys, worth trying out? I've been interested got a while, but not keen on the news upkeep.

Word is that a spectator mode and replays will be added a short time after launch.
These will be the 'unit cannons' and 'matchmaking' of Grey Goo.

These folks seem to be doing gamedev almost by the book. No extended alpha/beta, etc. That seems trustworthy, but I would suggest withholding judgement until reviews and videos are released.

Vow that's great. Will check it out. Im interested though what is your impression of the game. Is it really like c&c games by the gameplay feeling cause this is what im mostly missing in the RTS market today.

Price for Grey Goo is now set at 50$/50€ by the devs post on Steam. Too much for me for now. Will wait for a sale since it offers little singleplayer expirience with only five campaign mission per faction.

Yesterday I purchased Grey Goo for $34 via G2A: https://www.g2a.com/grey-goo-steam-cd-key-preorder-global.html

Not sure how many more Steam keys they have or how long this price will remain.

The game will be released tomorrow on Steam for $50. It looks like Starcraft but has many differences in races, playstyles, and gameplay. It is designed to make you spend less time with tedious micro and more time focusing on smart management of economy, production, and fighting battles. It is also designed to have a lower skill floor (easy to learn and play) but still have a high skill ceiling (hard to master). There is micro and multi-tasking but not as much as Starcraft.

Here are some nice and short videos about the game:

Yeah, the game seems to be a lot better then what I expected and the feedback is very good. Will have to think about buying it at 45.99€. On the other side for that price the devs have included the soundtrack made by Franck Klepacki (the C&C and Dune Universe video games music author) for free together with the game but only if we buy the game till the end of the weekend. Otherweise that soundtrack costs 7.99€ separately.

Eitherway all German speaking users can get the game cheaply on buch.de when it gets restocked for 31€.

TB's comments regarding the Unit Design(Aesthetically and in regards to gameplay) go a long way in making the game unappealing and it reminds me a lot of some of the issues faced by PA's roster as well.

from what little I know it seems as thought there isn't all that much to keep me playing for all that much time which makes it a hard purchase unless it gets a good sale on yet even then...

So, after buying the game on Humble I can say its worth the asking price. The campaign on hard is really challenging but passable. Since the campaign has a big cliffhanger at the end there will be definitely at least one expansion coming later and there is already a speculation about another faction. Macro play in this game is the most important element. Micro is really marginalized. In skirmish the AI is quite competent and if you try to turtle too much (basically just base building) it will destroy you fast. Ressource collection is slow as in C&C games but ressources (Catalyst) does get replenished over time. Gameplay is a lot slower then I was used from modern games but this is actually good. It makes the game more accessible to users and also more enjoyable. That does not mean that rush tactics at least for disrupting enemy eco aren't viable even with humans as a strictly turtling faction. Normally a game lasts between 30-45 minutes. Every unit in this game has its place as a counter unit to a particular enemy unit and as such more units aren't needed at all. Base buildings are hard to destroy unless you destroy conduits in Human base and as such power down their buildings or destroy hubs from Betas and thus power down their buildings. But to do that you have to get through their defenses which can be really hard. The Epic units are really powerfull and can really turn a game around but they can be defeated with a bit off thinking. Goos are really a unique faction and its playstyle I have never seen before in any game to date. Basically they can move over any terrain and can nicely hide on the mountain tops above your base. They are basically the offensive faction that can bring tons of cannonfodder at once to try to overwhelm your base defences but it does take some time to get enough ressources collected by Mother Goos to create more units. And since Mother Goos and some other Goo units can eat enemy units and buildings you need real force to confront them. Also Goos are basically a race built for micro which is an oxymoron for what market this game was developed :)

In my opinion this is a classical RTS game I have been waiting for a long time and I recommend it to any basebuilding, turtling fan. If you are not sure about the price you can always buy it cheaply on G2A for 32$ since they had the keys restocked.
