Hello once more people of the forums! Now comes a topic of, slightly died down by now, heated debate: the "Grenadier" bot. Now because everyone just loves to hear people's opinions- here's my take on the matter: The Scamper (dox) should keep it's role as a flanker/meanuverable/micro bot. Basically, keep it's weak direct fire weapons. The 'grenadier' however should become our t1 artillery bot. Use the model that has been collecting dust since Alpha, basically the grenadier would have the higher firing arc, slightly upped damage and a little aoe (probably larger than the t1 tanks), it's run speed should also be hampered slightly as well as turn speed; it should not be the most affective gains one single bot/tank it should however be more affective at taking out groups (specifically of slower units such as tanks.) The range may be either that of the basic tank or maybe slightly longer; not longer than a turret and possibly slightly lower. Edit: Here's a little sneak peak at what it could even look like in conjunction with T1 bots! :3
I agree with having the two units side by side and most everyone else I've talked to agrees with this. Now we just need to get our hands on the new Dox and see how it plays...
Well but the Uber staff doesn't want any "Special abilities" other than for commanders and this sort of feels like one.
Im not suggesting a special ability, Im suggesting that the unit has different guns on different arms.
Oooh.. Alright, I thought you mean't like they switched weapon modes or something. Hm.. Still not sure though.
Basically, its like Narwhal is now. If it targets air, it fires air missile, if it targets land/sea, it fires cannon. So, Dox targets units, they fire shots like before, they target structures, they lob 'nades. I like unit build variety, seeing more than a single type of unit scurrying around or being built. However, this is an acceptable idea, it would even make that bot look bad ***. As long as the dox does less damage overall than the ant does and has less health. Still can be used as raider and anti-wall-turret-killer, but requires micro and hit-run and selective targets.
What about instead if it's firing on a unit it fires directly at them while if it's firing at a structure it aims up? This means it doesn't actually have to fire grenades, it just fires upwards with the same damage which makes it keep it's current role but also gives it a bit of a buff for shooting over walls.
Because, besides for needing a nerf, the grenades they gave us are pretty cool. They are a great addition, its just nice if we could get the dox back with it. You used the grenades and don't think they are pretty sweet?
I don't know, I still feel I'd rather just use the Basic Artillery bot unit model and create a whole separate unit. It feels like if we gave it both it'd become better than the tanks because It could do... both! It takes the role of the tank at the very least. I think I'm leaning more towards creating a bot that has a specific artillery role. Though it is basically what the grenadier is atm. Edit: It even has all the animations and everything, all it's missing is a .json, which I could even make if I wanted to! >.> (Though of course it'd remain unusable since it's a server run game )
guess im not a fan of harassing units because i prefer big armies smashing into each other and being able to catch the dam units and make em fight. I like Grenadiers because they are more of a support unit. However, we can please both audiences by keeping both Dox and the Grenadiers =), more units is more fun!
Well knowing the lifespan of units armies "Smashing into each other" Doesn't really happen in this game; units kind of just drop dead when they get in range of each other- something I miss from TA: Armies physically clashing together and units start to flow past each other into the separate armies, firing off shots every which way.
