    Hi

Yes I'm new, and yes I've searched if this has been brought op before.

Firstly, I know this is a side issue, only a thing of polish that might (or might not) change for the better.

I'm kindof an astronomy enthousiast, and I was a bit dissapointed in how a parent star was depicted in a PA solar system.
    A yellowish featureless orange sphere.

My thinking is that if you're going to depict a star in a game you either make it the bright sonofagun it really is (not workable in PA) or you go with the current imagery you get from modern space probes that look at it from differten wavelengths.

    A picture:

I had a few pictures looked up for reference but halas I cannot post them yet.

I like to play against the AI on my own systems, where I've put a small radius planet on an orbit really close to the sun.. gives more of an illusion of scale and the star seems brighter too, as it sometimes fills the whole background as the planet orbits around the sun. :) Can be a bit distracting at times but looks awesome.

Edit: quick and dirty screen grab

Well, altough cool (so to speak), it's not the mercury effect I'm going for.

more some kind of bubbling looping magnetic field lines effect.

I think you can get quite far just by adding a corona and some sunspots.

Really, a star is the absolute master of it's surroundings, no matter how much nukes or what kind of planets you smash, it's nothing compared to the awesome power of a star.

Maybe I've just watched sunshine one time too many.

note: why does skynet_1984 want me (next to the captcha) to decode housenumbers for it?
