What isn't it? It's like Facebook + Skype + Twitter + Gmail. I'm guessing the news isn't too widespread outside the US.
Its sooooooo much better than facebook although pretty much everything is. Basically you can push status updates to certain groups or follow people without having to be friends, and your news feed is sorted by the groups you put people into. So if you have a bunch of acquaintances you don't have to listen to the crap they spew as updates, and moms doesn't get the pic of you hitting a bong. They also have a feature that lets you make text/email groups on the fly so if you were out at a festival or whatever you can make a chat room, and you can include people not on G+ too. It's probably best for people who have android phones right now, I don't think there's an iphone app yet. This combined with FB's f^&ked up privacy policies is going to turn FB into MySpace in 2 years. BTW in the US it's now legal for prospective employers to use your FB data to decide if they want to not hire you. Just sayin'.
