Edit: I have repudiated this view as it is too overpowered and is just another beefed up version of the SXX Commander Snipe strategy.

And so the developers are now considering the addition of the unit cannon, which will allow land units to be lifted off from low-G asteroids to invade certain planets.

Why not allow aircraft to do the same as well? Realistically speaking, the gravity on low-G asteroids is so low, that surely the thrusters on those aircraft can enable them to take off.

This will at least improve the versatility of aircraft, instead of letting them be confined on just a single world without the ability to portal over.

To make sure that it is not overpowered, set the gravity threshold to a very low amount, such that they cannot reach the escape velocity on most low-G moons, but only asteroids.

Imagine the day when Halleys can now move asteroids to an orbit around a planet, armed with 10 unit cannons, and many aircraft that can be used as staging grounds to attack a planet.

    That could be useful.

I've been wanting an Advanced Fighter that can fly between planets for quite a while now.

This also could be a great addition.

It could be slightly overpowered though, unless balances are installed.

Imagine building 1000 aircraft on an asteroid, only to have them suddenly flood an enemy planet, or even worse, to suddenly stomp a commander like the SXX commander-snipe strategy.

If the unit cannon is to be considered, I am pretty sure people will soon complain of a Vanguard unit cannon commander-snipe strategy of doom.

Vanguard is too fat big-boned for unit cannon. Problem solved.

So, some people want to make no atmosphere no air units.

Others, want air units to travel even better in lack of atmosphere.

Go figure. Both make sense to me. Actually, no unit so far demonstrates a dependence on air. The gunship for example, jet propulsion. No propeller.

NO. terrible idea. Air is already pretty OP and the fastest way to get a snipe.

I think we have a solution to all balance issues: Merlini.

    http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Merlini

According to the website, Merlini has an IQ of 204 ... one of the highest intellects to ever grace mankind. Using his superior brainpower, Merlini has devised many strategies in the game of DoTA 2, and given his god-given IQ, we did expect him to be able to solve all balance issues in PA as well. Let's email him, and see what he says.

I'm a big fan of that idea. It would probably need to be quite slow to balance it. The current adv fighter model actually looks just like it could fit this.

If they're going to add spacefighters, they should look different, unique, INTERESTING. like the "Seahorse" concept from Star Citizen:

I'm actually going to repudiate my original view.

Allowing aircraft to fly between planets will only turn them into "another more overpowered version of the SXX Commander Laser Snipe" strategy.
