Is there a thread about this? I figure other backers have played PA the most and know the best ways to optimize the game performance as well as what system specifications are most important.

I currently have a lot of crashes when my base reaches across half a planet and hundreds of units are moving for each team.

Heh, yeah I have everything turned off and on low. :D

I have 6gigs of ram, a GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics card, a i7CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz 2.67GHz, 64 bit operating system. Do you think adding ram would improve the situation or is beta being beta? Maybe my hardware is getting rusty?

    Penny for your thoughts.

Seriously? I run an i5 with a AMD 6850 at 1920x1200, on max settings with literally zero performance issues.

I'm so baffled about people's problems, I have a mediocre gaming machine and experience no problem at all.

Are you running some ridiculously high resolution?

Have everything on low and turn HDR off. The game still has lots of optimizations to go.

Also playing on smaller planets and/or single planet systems also helps.

I will add addition information about what planet sizes and maximum planets different ram configurations can handle :)
