A Destructoid fan named Carlo who shared a story about his late friend Michael John Mamaril. In october, Michael passed away due to cancer at the young age of 22,Both were huge Borderlands fans, so Carlo thought a great way to honor his buddy's memory would be to shoot Gearbox Software an email asking for a short eulogy to be read by the game's smart-mouthed robot mascot Claptrap. Not only did Gearbox comply with the request, it also promised to insert Michael into the upcoming Borderlands 2 as an NPC. /endcopypaste

If you haven't heard it Here's the link. I don't think i've ever been as proud to be a gamer until right now. And yes, i did cry.

What a noble request to do.

I'm sure if you did that with Sony or Activision it would be completely different. :|

I do seem to notice a bit of vidya game companies acting more charitable.

I recall TF2, golden wrenches being destroyed and charity

That was fan-driven by WingspanTT. But Valve did help endorse it, if I remember right.

And all the funds did go to Child's Play.

There was a song written my Nobuo Uematsu for a kid with leukemia a few years ago. I know there are a few other cases from other companies, but I can't remember specifics. It's awesome when video game people do this sort of thing(when anybody does it really, but video games are more of a focus of mine so I notice it more readily).

I have noticed Child's Play in particular getting a lot of attention recently. It's in all the Humble Bundles and those make tons of money. I've seen it other places too, but I forget where.

I remember Uber participated in a charity event.

Not surprising that certain people here chose to forget or acknowledge that. So much easier to ignore such facts and keep fueling the hate machine. Isn't that right Zoom and McLovlin.

I thought they were planning on it, but haven't yet done it.

Are you talking about the SMNC pro thing? I don't remember any other charity events by them.

Never said that Uber never contributed anything. I said they weren't as cool as they were back then when they had a small audience.

To be honest, I'm glad they're making the decision to go PC-only. It broke my heart but those wounds have long healed since then.

Might have been before you were here. And yes, they plan to make new charity stuff with SMNC too.

    Oh up yours, Pyre.

It's not the video game, it's Uber's promises that they couldn't keep.

Actually check you're history before making fun of it, otaku.
