I haven't been on in a long time but I would like to see the Gatling Bertha brought back. It was by far one of my most favorite artality units.
I'm sure you meant to post it in this handy thread instead; https://forums.uberent.com/threads/its-time-to-talk-unit-ideas.52165/ Mike
Doesn't this qualify as a hard counter to land units though? It effectively obsoletes all land armies while it exists. Things like this existed in TA as game enders, but PA already has that in the form of planets which you can throw at other planets.
Wouldn't work. Round planets don't play well with high velocity straight-shot artillery. The Bertha is dead my friends, we shall never see her like again in our time.
It fires a (relatively) slow shot in a high arc, much more akin to SupCom's artillery than Total Annihilation's Bertha.
Well it could still be made into some kind of gatling artillery then - different from the vulcan but still.... As long as it is horribly inaccurate
I think we've got enough artillery as it is. Like was said before, we don't need a hard counter to land armies all around. A bunch of Holkins or catapults should be enough for any turtle.
No night, I meant to create a new post to talk about the Vulcan Cannon. But by all means make a post there if your so inclined. I think we need more artillery in PA. After all this was in TA, and it is one of my favorite units second to the Thunder Bomber. ^^ As always, DEVS Great job so far, game is looking amazing
Yeah, bring on a vulcan clone. Doesnt matter if it shoots an arc like the Lobber, Interplanetary or just relatively straight thus require building it a bit elevated to gain range. All options are awesome.
If the arc is very near perfect... It can follow the curvature of the planet and just seem like it's firing straight.
The arc of the shot is derived from the gravitational pull of the planet and the speed of the projectile. On small planets it would shoot into space and on larger ones it would slam into the ground. Only planets that are 'just right' would allow the Bertha-a-like to fire and follow the curvature of the planet. Thus on the vast majority of worlds a straight-shot artillery piece is all but worthless. The Bertha is dead folks, mourn her passing.
It doesn't have to be dead nanolathe... This would be a perfect planet to planet weapon! Fire this from the moon to main planet for epicness... Cost would have to be high as well as very high energy cost to run...
This may be a very, very stupid question.... But what if you were to set a "bertha" to fire at the enemy base, but instead of letting it auto-fire in the shortest direction, you fire Silly nano, Even if we ignore that this game doesn't always follow physics, in this case, it can do that perfectly well. You make it sound like in the future, you can't have variable velocity rail guns.... A robot can calculate velocity needed to hit a target. That's not even rocket science, just basic kinematic equations from Physics 101.
The essence of the Bertha was the straight shot. It's no use invoking her name if you're not using her most notable feature. Rapid fire artillery is fine and may well appear in PA... but it won't be like the Bertha, nor the Vulcan, the Intimidator, nor the Buzzsaw.
