i'm not sure if this has already been suggested, or already dreamed up by you guys, but it's something that i wish was in other strategy games (and forgive me if it's already made its appearance before) but here it is what if you could select a bunch of units, from different points across the map, and have them all arrive at the same point at the same time? or in a certain order? or different points at the same time? this is a tactic that's been used by tacticians for centuries, allowing you to flank the enemy, or have a whole lot of slow moving units start attacking just as a whole bunch of really fast ones swoop in and back them up. at the moment, every strategy game i've played has required this be organised manually, by having a whole bunch of different units sitting just out of enemy range and then sent in to attack in waves. it also allows for disruptive defensive strategies, because you might see some slow units moving in on your base and some fast ones circling around, but because you anticipated this, you have a trap that's going to involve hellfire and brimstone raining down on the slow moving units just as the faster weak ones are moving in for their attack. i also really like the waypoint system that was used in the red alert series, that drew lines from the units through their waypoints to their destination, so you could see where they were going like following a dot to dot, rather than trying to trace down little flags. whilst we are on about waypoints, it would also be nice if waypoints could be repositioned. so if there are 5 stops for a unit along the way, and you want to change the 3rd and 4th only, you don't need to reset all 5 waypoints for them to receive this order. so yeah, waypoints.
SupCom had something like this, it was honestly pretty useless. I never used it, at least. But that was probably because SupCom's pathfinding was irredemably clunky.
Every unit will have its own speed and you will probably be able to set the travel speed as whichever unit you want. I would like to see something like this: You group several types of units together, select a single unit inside and order the entire group to move according to the speed of that unit so the group speed overrides speeds of singular units. OR You select the group and select the point of arrival. Then you have options of how many minutes they will need to arrive according to unit speeds. You then choose arrival time and travel by that speed. It's essentially the same thing but the arrival time method would remove a lot of calculation for you as you would know approx the speeds after a short amount of time and you'd be able to coordinate yourself. Of course this would be optional, in game settings you'd be able to set a specific speed to use like the fastest or slowest unit. This will be very important in this game cause of spherical maps, successful flanking will probably be the single best way of defeating opponents. I also realize that this would make very slow units move really fast if grouped, dunno is that a good idea but I think it would be very cool. Building different combinations of units to rush or to simply have a slow massive tanky group moving to redirect the enemy while a fast group with massive tanks attacks from the side.
