I plug in my 360 controller and it doesn't register. I go to options and to Gamepad, but it still doesn't work. I know my controller and such is up-to-date and working. Help please?

And PLEASE do not say stuff like "oh use a mouse" or "controllers suck" or anything. I just prefer controllers a lot because I cannot dedicate much time to PC gaming.

are you plugging the controller in before you launch steam and the game or after ?

    it works in other games?

normally it requires no configuration as the xbox controller works automatically.

Pretty much what Night said. Make sure you plug in your controller before you launch Steam.

Also, if you see your controller flashing all the green LEDs in the center, unplug it and plug it back in, you should then only have player 1 LED lit up. This happens every once in a while, I make sure to check for it before I open up Steam or games.

The game naturally supports controllers, no need to fiddle with settings, unless you want to change what certain buttons do. Or you want to assign the talk button to an unused button on the controller. I prefer pushing in the left thumbstick, or left on the D-Pad to activate talk.

Before I launch the game or launch Steam? Because I have Steam set to automatically turn on when I turn my computer on.

    Let me guess. XP?

I know this because, if it is, it DOESN'T automatically support gamepad. Vista will because the driver is stored. XP doesn't because, being pre-xbox, it doesn't recognize it.

Oh, one more very important thing... LRN2GAME GETAMOUSENUB CONTROLERSSUCKLOLOL. Nah, people have ego problems, controllers are fine for gaming.

    have you had any luck?

as for the question if its still relevant maybe it wont matter if the steam auto loads but just make sure to have the controller plugged in before the game loads.

go to device manager and under "microsoft common controller for windows class" (if thats even there) make sure the 360 wired controller shows up under that.
