Game won't launch (Crashes before the window is fully open)

Here is my DxDiag. Would really love to figure out why it will not launch for me. I've gotten it through steam, and am having troubles with it. Would really love for it to be able to launch, so that I can see if what I have is worth it =D

Looks like you haven't updated your Graphics drives in a couple of years, that is a good place to start but I'm not sure how the 4 Series Express Chipset matches up to other Graphics cards but the name isn't all that promising.

*shrugs* Can't afford a new graphics card. Wish I could. So that's what I'm stuck with. It plays most games. I simply don't know where to go to update my drivers, so if somebody could point me in the right direction, that'd help tremendously.

It is sad, but GMA X4500 it's just onboard chip from 2009. Even in 2009 i'ts performance cannot compete with even low-end discrete video cards. And now it's just can't do mostly anything related to games.

I doubt P.A. will work at all even with those drivers, but you should get few extra FPS in other games.

I would actually be surprised if it doesn't work. I've been able to run SC3 on low settings, which is an impressive feat for my crap graphics card.

Unfortunately motherboard-integrated cards not just slow, but extremely slow. They also have crap drivers and lack of functions.

You probably can run some of AAA games optimized for consoles, but RTS games such PA need much more GPU power. Even Supreme Commander never worked well on these cards and you want to run 2013-year game on it. So nope, it's wont work even after all optimizations will be done.

I think you mean 2.

Anyway starcraft it's game with very small amounts of units and it's extremely polished, blizzard spend more than 3 years on it's development. PA currently in early alpha and it's need more powerful hardware to run.

Also in Starcraft you always see only small piece of map, and in PA you can see half map and all your units on one screen, so it's why PA will always need much more hardware.

Yeaah. 2. I got confused. Oh well, hopefully the requirements go down once the more finished, polished versions of PA come along. I spent 70 dollars on this game. That's really not a small chunk of change. And unless somebody gets me a new computer or graphics card, I won't have any money myself to blow on it for a long time.

Nostalgia brought me here, and now it's making me kinda sad.

And really, the thing is. It should at the very least let me into the menu screen, if nothing else.

It just becomes a white screen upon opening, and has an error message.

No, what's making you sad is a lack of foresight.

Don't you think it's a little backwards to complain about an Alpha product not working because you bought it before checking if your system can handle it?

Unfortunately your onboard graphics isn't suitable for games.

Yep it's sad. I can only recommend you to wait before more optimizations done and then buy minimal playable videocard.

Also I don't know where are you from, but in countries I lived there always was people who easily give away their old videocards for free or for $10-30.

Problem is: menu already using graphics card and it's crash when some required function not available or working wrong.

Oh Mike, I can't agree with you about that. If you PA store page you won't find any details or warnings about supported videocards.

Not everyone who have computers know what exactly videocard inside, and less people understand difference between high-end discrete GPU and onboard/integrated graphics. And computer shops are usually very unclear about that because they want to sell cheap hardware for high price.

That doesn't really change the fact that if you're unsure and wish to partake in an ALPHA product you are fully responsible if you jump the gun and purchasing without doing a bit of research or seeking out someone who can give an answer without the work.

There are no warnings about specific cards, but it is very vague and the Uber Store does direct people to check the FAQ, the vagueness itself should be a warning to dig deeper. The ALPHA status should be enough for that really.

Also it still doesn't make it right to come around after the fact and try and blame others for the mistakes made.

I totally agree with your position, but I don't see where he blamed anyone.

Blame might not be the right word, but when you try to leverage your purchase like that despite the fact that you knew what you were purchasing an Alpha product, that's not exactly accepting the issue and what lead to it.

Aside from things like Hardware Requirements and as I said, they are vague and along with the Early Access status should get someone asking questions, given that your card, regardless of it's model is still 3-4 years old which should get you wondering how it'll handle a new game.

You can't jump in blindly and then be disappointed by an issue like this that pops up.

Oh you can always be disappointed by issues that pop up. Not everyone knows enough about computer gaming to delve into such things like you, oh wise one.

And the only thing it tells regarding graphics card, is shader 3.0. Can't say I remember if it has 3.0 or not, seeing as I've never known where to look. I know how to fix alot of things on a computer, but how to swap out the innards for new bits, that much I really don't know.
