game instantly minimizes to desktop when i start it

every time i try to run the game it instantly minimizes to desktop and if i keep clicking it it will minimize again until it crashes. ive tried redoing my graphics card drivers and i think it might have something to do with the default resolution but i cant change it since i cant get into the game. does anyone know what might be causing this? ive posted this on steam forums but i havent been able to fix the problem. when it pops up i hear about 1 second of sound then it immediately goes back to my desktop. ive been playing the game for a few days now with no problems but after the update this started happening

edit: i changed the resolution in the config file and it fixed the game. now i can play!
