Remember when there was a hype for a potential huge galactic war that involved all players? I have a concept relating to this. Start/setup The war takes place between 3 or 4 factions (potentially the vanilla ones, but player made one could be cooler) in a galaxy with 30 or so systems. This really depends on the amount of commanders that sign up, however. One elite commander is selected for each team, which will make the grand strategic decisions about where to attack and whom to send. Rank All players except a select few, chosen by the Elite commanders, start with bare abilities in battle... they have access to only specifics. Four Ranks are needed (Names may vary for each side) Rear Commander (Lower Half) - Has access to T1 structures and units. 30% of commanders Specialist Commander - Has access to T1 and T2 of a ceratin unit type. 30% of commanders. Only if there are enough commanders. Rear Commander (Upper Half) - Has access to T2 structures and orbital. 20% of commanders Vice Commander - Has access to T3 structures, excluding super-weapons and experimental/titans. 15% of Commanders Commander - Has access to all technologies. 5% of Commanders. The percentages only apply to the initial distribution. Attacking Elite commanders decide where to attack and when. Like in the game of risk, it will alternate between sides as to who attacks and how many commanders to send (limit 4). Any commanders sent will not be able to attack again for several turns, so it is sensible to strategize who you send. Opposing commanders then decide who will defend. Everyone is deployed under shared armies. No need to worry if a more advanced commander dies- you can still keep using their technology. Lower commanders simply are not authorized to build something- the player still present as the deceased commander may order it. You obviously may only attack adjacent systems. Death If a commander dies in battle, it is reincarnated as the T1 rank after a certain amount of turns. Promotion Simply determined by the amount of operations that you were successful in. Ladder: T2 Promotion: 2 Battles. T3 Promotion: 5 more battles. T4 Promotion: 5 more battles. Elite commanders may, however, issue a certain amount of promotions based off of how many systems are controlled. It could be a y=x curve, but I don't see that happening- probably a y=x/2 curve would be used. Winning Conquering the galaxy, or Constructing a superweapon (like Black Sun) that would take some amount of turns to defend and consistently defending the system its supposed to be on. These are just my ideas. Do I see this happening? Well, with the inactivity of the community, not really, no. But, whatever.
Hi bengeocth, I'm working on a similar concept but trying to keep things as simple as possible so no ranking or promotion. I think I'll be able to do all the coding in a few weeks but I really want others to review my game rules and detect possible issues. Check it out in the WIP mods subforum.
