I have been wondering about some of the further details of how the playing field will be set up. In the livestreams we've seen how the planetary maps look, but we have not yet seen what a full galaxy looks like. For example, how many stars that you can interact with will there be, and how many of those will have planets? Galaxies can have billions of stars, and I know that it is unlikely that there will be that many in a single game. And there have been over 800 exoplanets discovered so far. A campaign of that scale would take an extremely long time to complete. I guess part of this depends on how the victory conditions are set as well.

Another thing I was thinking about was how the planets and solar systems will be arranged. Firstly, how many stars will we see which have planets, and how many of those will be multiple planet systems. Also, how will they be arranged in space? I feel that the easiest way to do things would be to put them all in the plane of the galaxy and create a 2D field in which everything lies. However, doing so would be missing out on what they could do with 3D combat.

And what about travel within the galaxy? I know there's already a post about this, but I think that this fits here too. Will galaxies be free roam, with players able to travel wherever they want in the spaces in between stars? Or will they be restricted to certain lanes of travel? I can see advantages and disadvantages to both. For example, having a 2D plane will make it easier for players to defend and orient themselves around, but having 3D areas would make it possible for players to send forces above or below enemy defenses, making them practically worthless. For that matter, what will galactic defense lines look like?

The closest game that I've played that I could compare to what I think PA will look like is Sins of a Solar Empire, and that was very 2D. I recognize that many of these questions will probably only be answered when the game itself is released and people begin to play it. However, I thought I'd put my thoughts up here for discussion.

We know pretty much nothing about Galactic War aside from it being a Meta game to tie together a series of regular skirmish games.

If uber does Carry out with the galactic war then then it would be a extremely long campaign with loads of potential and lots of fun.

Doesn't the video at the link below show us an example of what the Uber Galactic War vision is, at least graphically? Looks pretty amazingly HUGE to me, at least for an RTS game, which is very cool! It's not true galactic scale, but certainly hundreds of planets at least. I've only seen this kind of epic scale attempted in 4X turn based style games, which I love. So, I can't wait to see the final product myself!

Im not entirely sure how its going to work the Galactic war, im assuming Clans and Alliances are going to have alot to-do with it as separate people are going to find it hard defending more than one system from numerous numerous other people.

I wonder if you'll have to worry about commanding units on multiple planets that you're attacking at once. Like if you'll have to be constantly zooming in and out to check up on how your forces are doing on different planets.

If you can't handle it don't make simultaneous attacks? This isn't even something that's unique to GW, as it just uses standard Skirmish size games in series.
