looks like the type of moba i could like. just no linux support and THAT to me is really shamefull when mobas generally don't use directX and opt for opengl, not to metion are really lightweight games. dota 2 for instance is a linux native. but like blithering idiots, the guys at fractured space chose directx11
Fractured Space, is the UT engine with a coherent-labs.com based (same as PA) ui, does UT have linux support?
It's a bit far to call them blithering idiots for not using OpenGL, no? They probably weighed the positives and negatives and may have just decided it's be more with the ease of creation and optimization by servicing one platform instead of two or three.
wheighing the pros and cons i would have decided that directx has nothing more than open gl and that porting it to two more platforms i could double my income. I'll take the blithering idiots back but I really think it's ....... not nice!
Windows represents 95.48% of the steam market, and that percentage is increasing: +0.05% in the last month (source). Porting a game to multiple platforms is likely to cost more than any profit gained by the small percentage of non-windows, at this point in time, which is a sucky situation for everyone as it can lead to a downwards spiral of support. Lack of competition isn't a good thing.
I asked one of the devs once and they said that they wouldn't do OpenGL/Linux next time around. It caused more problems than it was worth. If you look at the Human Resources kickstarter too, it wasn't doing Linux.
PA itself didn't have Linux support at the very beginning of the Kickstarter campaign. This was added in Kickstarter Update #2.
I am willing to apologize for my part in this. 4 win 7 computers that are MINE Linux is really cool and all, tatsu, but holy cow is it rough to get into.
i'd never state otherwise. I get this impression myself. the thing that you may not run into though, that I run into on a constant basis when confronted with windows is how ILLOGICAL it is. this breaks my brain a bit as well as my neighbors ears because I am a highly logical person, and illogism creates for me a paradox that my brain is unble to come to terms with. See if suddenly there's a bluescreen on my PC 4 seconds after boot and having done nothing I'm all fine and well with that. I really am! if that is the way things are and can be explained I will gladly accept it as part of my interaction with my computer. That is, untill I reboot and there isn't a bluescreen within those four seconds nor therafter..... do you see what I mean? ever since I've tried linux I've entered a world where the answer isn't "whoah, no idea pal, you'll have to ask Kathulu" but "yes, you see this packet's dependencies arn't met," or "you don't have the right kernel" or some other crazy code and hardware stuff I don't know anything about .....yet. the point is making linux "work" (the way you intend, make it do whatever fullfils your crary fantasies) isn't out of reach and there's never anything that is burried too deep within the bowels of the OS history and creation to be changed and nobody could explain what layer(s) amidst the thousands that were added on top is/are the source of a certain issue, nor why it's happening, nor how it can be fixed. Windows is a faulty solution on which high hopes were placed and billions upon billions of dollars were poured into improving. The cold hard truth is that there is no namable sum of cash that can "fix" windows. It will forever carry it's origins with it. And, to me, that windows, dispite all this be the prefered operating system by a 96% majority is a damn blasted shame. when starting up fresh is a option that's sitting right there and rather accessible (yes coding a whole new OS with a linux kernel on par with windows in a short period of time would require unphathomable sums of cash but nothing crazier than what microsoft spends yearly on windows). it's a buisness, and you don't take a buinessman's favorite money pig. He'll never trade it in with another that yields no guarantee of being just as profitable or more. why take the risk otherwise? there are many parts of our world where senseless choices prime over sensible ones simply in the name of cash, I'm sure you can think of plenty of examples. I'm not saying all this for you in particular, you sound like you don't disagree anyways. Just putting it out there because I'm still hoping one day we change attitude towards this. We can't go on putting our cash and ergo trust into a buiness that has gone off the rails in terms of feeling a need to cater to demand. Oh they're supplying sure. but demands? demands are no longer our oppinion. they can dictate them freely. who are we going to turn to in revenge? linux? hah!
