Here is Tim's latest Metal Planet. Next build you should see some significant changes to how the metal planet looks in the Planet Editor. :)

We don't number out internal builds. So the UI just lists it as "unknown".

There is going to come a time when I will learn bigger is not always better, however this is NOT that time.

    So no, not big enough.

The Planet Killer is pretty big, yo. It's so big the Adeptus Mechanicus doubts that it would even be possible to built outside of the Eye of Terror. :p

Considering the Adeptus Mechanicus are the same guys who don't know how to build any of **** they used to and can only do so on the account of old instructions they find and also Worship the slumbering 'Void Dragon', I wouldn't count on them to know left from right in that regard.

I'm thinking the polar cap(s) are either A) Jets, B) Giant godddamn lasers, c) both of those

This makes me think of Laser Propulsion and using it to move other planets around.

It's a terraforming device obviously, let's call it Shivus Prime.

Its only terraforming in one direction: Anything -> Lava

Anyway, how do you aim such a "thing"?

You've got to flip it. Turn-ways.

    Oooooh...it's so pretty...

The caps are looking awesome now! I notice the latitudinal crevasses have disappeared again for now, but I'm guessing this is just part of the alpha processing.

I wouldn't say metal planets necessarily have to be shiny. If I was building a giant planet-destroying monstrosity I'd want it to have a matte finish so it doesn't shine too brightly and give away its position as easily (yes I'm aware it's the size of a planet and as such hard to miss, but still). Also, even if it was shiny to begin with, it will have been scratched and dulled by an undisclosed (and no doubt extremely vast) amount of time exposed to the debris of space.

I agree that it's not quite metallic enough yet, but the devs haven't finished working their magic on it yet.
