Flying cars have been around for a while – they're called planes.

The problem is, people are stupid and bad drivers. They don't have the intelligence to maintain their automobiles nor do they have the intelligence to pay attention to what they're doing. When they do crash, they now have several thousand pounds of flying explosive missile to come crashing down on whatever is below them.

I honestly don't see this happening until we have better automated driving and good enough batteries for this to be electric. When these flying cars can fly themselves and don't guzzle crazy amounts of gasoline, then we'll get these.

The helicopter version is pretty neat though. This would allow us to not have to go to a designated airport or landing strip. Just take off from your driveway and then land at your local grocery store. But again, not until we have good enough automated driving software.

Which we're getting there! Tesla has some very impressive automated driving stuff and so does Google. We're not far from being able to sleep on our way to work! :-D

I'm not buying a car unless it drives itself. Frankly I have too little trust in other drivers to invest in a driver's license.

I don't know how driving school works wherever you live in but here in Finland we have a huge emphasis on ANTICIPATORY driving aka you're always ready to react to other drivers' mistakes.

    This worries me greatly.
I live in Montreal, we already have some of the worst drivers on the planet. I can only imagine what kind of madness will ensue once commuting takes to the skies.

In the many US states, they don't even require driving tests any more. There's a whole lot of stupid on the road.

    Hence, automated driving only.

Gonna be awesome! Fall asleep in the car, wake up to an alarm when you arrive at work!

I KNOW! it even has a minor autopilot for stability and safety! Come on how cool would it be to just up and go from your garden with that!

Driving test. There is a written test to my knowledge still in every state, but quite a few don't actually require any proof of actual ability to drive.
