I think they should fix the targeting system first. Every god damn time I'm the late game, it won't let me do ****, it wouldn't let me target anything
This has been brought up so many times. Please use the search bar. Short answer: Probably won't happen. Long answer: Some parts of the community like the idea, others don't. The developers never really gave a clear answer on what they think so we can't be sure.
I see this as needed alternative to needing to smash a planet into another planet. What if there are only two planets in a system? You're pretty much forced to abuse the commander's travel delay in that case.
If there are only two planets in a system and it gets to a point where each planet is conotrolled by only one person, why waste time and resources flinging one of the planets into the sun instead of, oh, I don't know, trying to invade and destroy the enemy commander?
Before I go straw-man, I'd like to say that scenario is very one-sided in the current game's meta. Currently, planetary invasions are next to impossible if the other player has had sufficient time to establish orbital control over their planet. If it's before that point, of course it is a preferable course just to carry out an invasion. If it is after that point, of course it is preferable to abuse the commander travel time over the Astreus and smash the planet into the other in a last-ditch kill effort. It isn't supposed to be that sending a planet into the sun is a dominant strategy. A situation could open up where two players are fighting for Planet A, which is too large for Halley's to control. There is Moon A, which is a moon small enough for Halley control. Player 1 and Player 2 are in a fierce ground war on Planet A. Player 1 fears that if he begins to take the advantage in the ground war, Player 2 may attempt to flee to the second planet. So Player 1 might take a lax alternative and box up his forces while he establishes Halley control over Moon A. Immediately prior to a major attack, Player 1 might send the moon into the sun to avoid a drawn-out confrontation without having to worry about spending additional resources on fortifying the moon so that Player 2 can't get a foothold on it. Alternatively, Player 1 can set up the moon as bait, and wait for Player 2's commander to land on the moon and then send it flying into the sun. Of course, that's a linear scenario. More likely than not, Player 1 would just consolidate the moon instead of sending it into the sun, so they can gain metal from it. There also might be a situation where one player has the strategic advantage, but knows their APM and attention span is not as high as their opponents, thus they have the resources to take over the moon but not the management skills to take care of it. Instead of risking the enemy player taking control of it, not for having more resources but for just having more speed in their actions, the slower player can just spam some halleys on it and send it flying into the sun. Harmlessly gets rid of something to worry about.
Or, if he really was strong enough to take the advantage, he could branch out to the planet, send a ground force and avengers onto it and ambush the opponent should he attempt to flee. Or if player 2 is already prominent on the planet, player 1 could just scout and eliminate teleporters, orbital factories and astraeuses. Or x 2, player 1 can use nukes.
Yeah that should totally be an option to win. If you know you cant get victory, you must strive for the second best option, KILL EVERYONE!
i think it would work like this... planet go into sun sun relases a Ring of fire that burns everything faceing it
Me2 i imagine the planet beeing immersed by the sun wraping around it grilling a hotdog with 2 sticks of firewood!
