    hi all

    just got alpha yesterday, was a HUGE TA fan back in the day, missed the boat with SC so i was really excited about this. some thoughts/comments;

    1. it's pretty f-ing awesome. plays exactly like the old TA, which is what i hoped for. no need to break something that was pretty prefect!
    2. one concern i have is, will a cool element be lost from TA with the planet maps. the plane maps with "edges" allowed some pretty cool maps in TA, stuff that you can't really do with planets. or at least i think not, when the planet editor is up and running properly perhaps we can recreate some of the old favourites. a small gripe tbh, planets are cool.
    3. graphics are ok, i presume they will have much more detail in beta and full release?
    4. galactic war sounds pretty epic, anyone got any more details?
    5. it seem to follow the units from TA almost exactly so far anyway. does this mean all the old tactics are still relevant? certain units aren't worth building, "flash" rushes, hawk zergs etc.
    6. will there be more than one faction? even though everyone played arm anyway lol.
    7. disappointed by lack of singleplayer campaign tbh. i loved the old TA campaigns, played them many many times. took me a long time to beat some of them. surely i wasn't the only one?
    8. performance is pretty decent on my mid level 2 year old laptop (except for planet editor), so should run like a dream when its optimised.
    9. many old TA heads here?

    4. galactic war will be a meta game to replace the campaign, the idea i imagine is to travel from system to sytem gaining supremacy in the galaxy.

    6. no one faction on release, there is a thread where this is being argued vehemently. but Uber has not manifested revolt at the idea, they just can't afford to on such a tight schedule. after it comes out maybe a dlc? certainly a mod.

    7. this game is definately not about being a TA2, the past offered games trimed to their public so does the present. As mavor so briliantly put it "we look as this game as fanservice in a lot of ways"
and that is absolutely true what we're getting delivered here is an engine more than anything, when you want t look at what was really magical abotu the TA/ sup com type games was that they had potential and power to them like no other, and this allowed for this amazing feeling of imersiveness and the engaging realism of metal vs lazer even though those things do not exist in our world.

it really comes down to being able to control huge armies and a great scale and a great number of different strategies you can apply and succced at.

he only recipe that has prooven capable of offering this is flowing economy + great scale + simulated projectile.

and these things are things that made our computers go crazy. this part of the reason why the evolution of this game (game here being this thing that produced this hard-to-reproduce experience) has been towards simply an engine. the rest of the reason is that "fun" has evolved and grown bigger with multiplayer. there arn't many people who can say after having intensively tryed multiplayer that there was more fun to be had in the single player. And it is understandable that people who haven't that intensively tryed multiplayer may think to the contrary because back in TA multiplayer wasn't all that used nor competitive, it was of a fairly low level and the fun to be had was less or equal to singleplayer.
Tthis is why with an engine stripped down from everything else and into wich all the work and effort has been put, all of us, fans of the TA lineage have all that we could ever dream of.

    8. Most ceirtainly not "like a dream" the fact that your laptop is two year old put your experience when the game is released in the "playable" zone, and yes planet generation will continue to lag. but really as I stated above this is the kind of hardcore tech game, and it will take a beast to run it at 60frames per second, laptops can't hope for this achievement.

    9. yes quite a bunch of TA heads here as a matter of fact you could have posted this here : https://forums.uberent.com/threads/why-ta-was-so-grand.49900/

    1. PA is awesome. Even if I never played TA.
    2. Eh, sometimes you get quite awesome maps with the planets, too!
    3. The unit models won't change much I think, but there will be post progressing (processing)- effects and such, better lightining and what not, if I remember right. Oh and Anti-Aliasing.
    4. I wish I would know more as well. ^^
    5. No clue.
    6. Nope, not at release at least. Well, there are theoritcally multiple factions since each army is a faction, but there will only be one unit pool 'til release.
    7. They chose the galatic war instead of a scripted single player campaing as it allows more long term fun. It's something new everytime since the galaxy is randomly generated. ^^
    8. I hope so!
    9. I believe so, yes.

    3. There probably will be better effects. And post-processing is not implemented yet. But terrain and unit quality will not be increased. It may not look like that, but polycount is already off the charts.
    4. Risk, Total War, Dragon Commander. This sort of stuff.
    6. No.
    7. Galactic war is one. And lore will exist in some form somewhere.
