I've just watched the live stream from Friday where you mention that the client is just that and game state/control is held on the server. This would seem to allow for multiple people to concurrently command units on the same side, not just co-operative with separate units. It would introduce a very interesting coordination challenge given the use of common resources, common units, etc. It'd be necessary to coordinate between players to a much tighter degree than is necessary with standard coop play. It introduces the possibility of specializing roles, such as construction, defence, offence, etc, with potentially custom modded UI's for each. Anyone who enjoys tower defence style games are likely to find the construction side of things appealing, for examples. Is this something that you'd consider in the final release or something that would be possible to do in a mod post release?
