Hey there. I have several friends who like real time strategy games but are not as good as me at micromanaging. What I mean is, in terms of a straight up fight between armies, we're evenly balanced, but they're not as good at rapidly expanding and claiming resources.

What I'm asking is hopefully only a small thing. essentially I would like to see a system where we could create a handicap, say in 5% increments, to the overall resource rate one player gains. This way I could play my friends and put say a 20% handicap on myself and the whole thing would be a lot fairer.

I was going to make this a poll but then it occurred to me that it's not really important how many people like the idea. I don't think it's a big thing to implement and for some people it would make the game infinitely more enjoyable, so with that in mind, I hope the devs take notice and that people don't join this thread simply to come up with reasons why this isn't needed.

Will probably be in. I recall SupCom having such a handicap mechanic... I never used it though... maybe that was Sorian AI stuff...

Don't quote me on any of that.

I think the SupCom econ multiplier was used for the AI on how much you allow them to cheat?

I think this is a pretty good idea, I know that it'd be cool to play against some friends who won't play as often as I do, wouldn't be fair to wipe the floor with them.

As far as I know, SC didn't have this feature by default, as it was Solarian's AI pack added a handicap function but that affected health and damage ratios, not economy.

Also, everyone always says 'ooh that's easy to mod'. If it's that easy to mod then it shouldn't be a big deal for the devs to put it into the core game, particularly when it's a small modification to add an option to help out players.

You know you shouldn't really modify peoples posts through quotes. My post never read that way.

You really are a robot aren't you? No sense of humor. You said don't quote me on that and then, not only did he quote you, but he modified it. Then he put the laughing smiley after that. We humans call that a joke.

Cool! Would it be possible to have a function to estimate a certain handicap level between two ranked player? ( or ranked locally? )
It's used in Go for example. For each level of difference, the weaker player can have one more stone at the begining. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_handicaps

I like this idea, very much.

5% increments sound a bit too large, 1% would be better I think.
And it should probably be locked by default, i.e. the same handicap applies to both metal and energy, but more advance options hidden away in some menu wouldn't be bad.

The possibilities are endless... I mean planetary! :D
