I played L4D2 for over 500 hours until I bought PA, it would have continued far greater.

So has anyone played Evolve and would you recommend it? All the negative reviews on steam are from DLC rip-offs from launch day, I can't filter out the reviews that are truly criticizing the gameplay.

I can hear this from people I trust :)

I played it's beta and now own it for Xbone, it's quite fun, and not sure how DLC was a rip off, but whatever people will always say that. XP

So why isn't it in the base game?

    Because preorder bonus. :p

Honestly I just don't really care about DLC, never really have. Of course I'd rather it be included in the game originally, but I don't feel it's some destruction of our rights to have some Day one dlc. And I find the argument "it should have been included in the original game" as a bit selfish, if the DLC and more so it's content never existed in the first place and there was only the base game... Nobody would care.

What's the difference between this and Star Citizen's 100$+ ships?

Star Citizen is getting development funds from those ships.

Day 1 DLC is stuff they decided to sell for extra instead of putting it into the game.

And? Why is that any better? It's still something they decided to sell for extra instead of putting it in the game.

It might seem different to you, but that's only due to your bias towards Star Citizen, how do we know this DLC isn't going into funding further development of the game as well a top of the base price?

If we apply this to say.. The xbox one, well it released with a version with kinect for 100 dollars more and one without for 100 dollars less. Well then if you got the version without youd have to buy the kinect for 100 dollars more to get the stuff it adds.

To me there is no distinction between this DLC that adds four new characters (one per class) as well as a new monster than say.. PA's commanders being sold for 10 dollars each.

Squishy you can't compare a hardware situation with a software one.

If day one DLC exists, it means that content was created before day one. And that means they worked on it while also making the game. If it's ready to ship on day 1, just ship it. Don't cut it up for the sake of extra cash. Why should one person get less content than another person because they went to Walmart instead of Gamestop?

I don't know, I bought PA on steam for 90$ and didn't get what people got on Uber's own retail bit for 90$. Same thing, only you don't see it due to a cloud of bias.

Why did gamestop give away more than wal-mart? Because gamestop gave the company a better deal most likely.

Edit: And again, I'm sure many Star Citizen ships are already finished, or at least exist. Why aren't they given away with the base game as they "should."

Stop comparing two different business models. It doesn't work.

But they're so so similar? Buy base game, buy extra stuff that the game didn't but could have had originally, so the developers have more money.

Edit: And if you mean from early access to release, fine, if Star Citizen is still offering ships for pay when it releases I'll get back to you, maybe then we can talk about how similar they are.

In Star Citizen you can still get the ships even if you didn't buy them pre-release. Day One DLC content is completely locked away unless you buy it.

And the game did have it. If it didn't, it wouldn't be day one DLC!

I won't buy it because I am boycotting $100 dollar games. Devolopment costs are not that high, especially for a multiplayer game only. I will not support greedy companies milking the system. Plain and simple. If others choose too, that's their choice. I figure the more of us that say "no this isn't ok" the less likely we will continue to see $100 games hit the market.

I'd just like to point out that KillerKiwiJuice specifically said they wanted to talk about gameplay and not the DLC argument because that's being done to death already.

    Way to go guys.

Got the game, I can say it's pretty fun.

From a RTS perspective, it definitely requires lots of strategy if you ACTUALLY want to win games. As the monster, you need to come up with a plan to evolve without being seen or take the hunters by surprise.

I think it's a good purchase, but i'm not sure if it's as fun as L4D2 was to me. L4D2 is such a fun game, when you win of course :p

    I'd recommend Evolve.

I've watched a ton of competitive gameplay of it and can say it looks great, but my only issues are the Wraith monster and Lazarus medic being pretty blatantly OP, which they'll hopefully fix at some point because I'm planning on picking it up

Yeah strikes are a huge part of the game since they lower your HP by 25% each and cause you to die instead of just go down if you already have 2, and Lazarus can revive both downed players with no strikes (no problem with this) AND he can revive fully dead people with no strikes as well, which no medic can do, let alone with no strike penalty

A monster has to down a player, then smack him around for like 10 seconds while he's on the ground while the rest of the guy's team is shooting at him, and then he has to eat him (which he can't do if he's getting shot at) to stop the guy getting back up with no penalty at all from Lazarus reviving him, and at that point the monster's either dead or has a lost less HP than he would have had with any other medic

But Lazarus can't even heal without the the health poof thing. If monster downs medic it's basically GG.
