I will probably be editing and adding on to this guide from time to time, and I will probably forget some tactics because there is a lot to remember. Feel free to give me some ideas to improve this guide, or even improve my gameplay, i'm not perfect nor will this guide make you perfect. This guide was created after experience from playing with randoms, i have never teamed up with more than 3 people, but would love to! This guide may vary depending on your play style. You may love it, or you may hate it. My Endorsements When I say my, that doesn't mean you have to use these, but they are best in my opinion. Gold - Rate of Fire Silver - Armor Bronze - Accuracy Rate of Fire allows you to do great damage with the Assault Rifle and fastly take out bots and turrets with your Grenade Launcher, If you are a bad shot, I recommend using something else instead of Rate of Fire, or add Clip Size. Armor, obviously, allows you to take some beef and keep on moving. Learn how much damage this will allow you to take. This doesn't turn you into Kimbo Slice. Accuracy allows you to hit a bit more shots while hip firing, so you dont have to aim down the sights. Some use accuracy as gold but I don't see myself getting long-range distance kills with the Assault Rifle before the enemy runs away and the Grenade Launcher is already accurate enough. Spending Money What I tend to do first is upgrade in this order: Passive to Level 2, Bomb to Level 2, then I upgrade Bomb to 3 or Charge to 2, depending on the circumstances. If the other team is full of uber ninja assassins go with Charge. If you chose Bomb 3, then go to Charge 2, or vice versa. Lastly, I go passive 3. Yes, lastly, but this is just me. Sometimes I upgrade Fly to level 2 and/or Charge to level 3. Again, this is only me, i'm not a charge-happy assault who depends on the grapple of level 3 charge to get kills. I will explain this more later. After all of your upgrading, use the rest of your money on juice, bots, or turrets, whatever one you think your team needs most. Bomb This skill is easily my favorite Assault skill, and is why I upgrade it to level 3 first, it just has so many uses. I like to place them where a enemy Pro would land after using a jump pad. They are very useful if that pro using the jump pad is a gunner, and helps you get some damage in before taking any. Try to place bombs tactically. What I mean by this is place them on walls facing the direction you wish to launch the pro. Place it on the wall to your left if you wish to launch them to your right for a ring-out, or vice versa. Or even place it on the wall behind a Pro to launch them at you if you wish. A tactic just as effective is placing them simply on the ground and letting your timing be the key. Gunner to close to you? No problem! Detonate the bomb as soon as the gunner enters the bomb's radius and send him flying back. After that you may either make your escape or get the edge on him and spray that pesky Gunner to his death. What I tend to do more often is let the Pro run slightly past the actual bomb and onto the edge of the radius facing the edge of the map and detonate, making an easy 100 big bucks and getting a hilarious ring-out. Bombs can also save your killing streak! More often than never, you will find yourself at low health and a pro chasing you. What to do? Simply throw down a bomb and that Pro will either keep chasing you or completely back off. If he/she continues that foot pursuit, use your timing to either ring-out the pro or fire them backwards for your escape. Another escaping technique is Charge. Charge Here's where I will continue from the Spending Money section. Unless you think it is necassary to upgrade to level 3 Charge go ahead an do so, I do sometimes. The reasons I dont all the time is because you can easily be killed during the animations, you can accidentally hit bots, and you can't get double or higher kills. Level 2 charge allows you to go through multiple Pros. It is completely up to you if you wish to upgrade or not, they both of their pros and cons. Charge has multiple uses. Escaping, killing, and navigation. If you are low on health or you see a large amount of Pros heading your way, don't hesitate to use charge and get out of there! Charge is also a great killing mechanism. I tend to use it if I need to reload but I'm still being shot at. This allows me to throw off the pro's aim and for me to reload, get my distance, and the upperhand. It's also an obvious ring-out tool. Sometimes without the speed endorsement I feel amazing slow after grabbing lots of speed pickups and then dieing so I use it after I spawn to get back into the battle quicker. Fly I usually only upgrade this to level 2 at the highest, and this is for saving myself after an attempted ring-out. Flying is also sometimes useful while in a firefight because most people cannot adjust fast enough while you continue to rain lead aspirin. Destroying Bots and Turrets Use your Grenade Launcher to take out these key elements in the game effeciently. Try to hit them dead on and not bounce the grenade, i'm almost certain this does more damage. Rate of Fire will make this process much quicker. However, if trying to take out Pros with the Grenade Launcher try to bounce the grenades as it will be much easier to hit the enemy, unless they are standing still, then go for the direct impact. If they are behind a wall bounce that grenade off the wall behind tehm for a nice kill. Jackbots can be kind of a pain, and you shouldn't do it alone, but to do atleast some damage, attach the bomb onto the jackbot, it does much more damage than the bomb just being on the ground, then continue to shoot it with your nade launcher. And I think that just about wraps this guide up. Dont forget I will constantly be editing and cleaning this guide up and adding information I forgot or other people gave me. Have fun and good luck! A good, but un-obvious tip for F.L.Y (well, at least I thought so) is to get in to fly at the top of a jump, and as you move forward slowly stagger downwards by deactivating and reactivating it. This will allow you go at least 1.5x further in the direction of travel. but of course you will be lower so only works if you are going down, if you need to stay up to reach your destination it's useless. Also with the Grenade Launcher if someone is behind a wall watching you and there is a back wall (think: those unbreakable glass section on top of GrenadeIII) aim real low on the back wall's corner and you're likely to get some rebound damage. If you shoot fast enough you'll usually get a kill on an unsuspecting guy but someone who's clever will probably walk away after 1st one. Good Gold Endorsements IMO: ROF, Clip Size, Critical, Skill Regen Good Silver (only) Endorsements: Speed, Armour, Health Regen Good Bronze (only) Endorsements: Accuracy Any combo of those will work well. When I say 'only' it means that in my opinion they should be no higher, but anything could be lower.
Finnaly a spot dedicated to my fav class . Heres a other thing i found out using all skills together, firstly make sure health is high then throw bomb on ground, run to where you are nere the edge of the blast then dedinate. This will send u high and far, after u go a distance, fly then charge and right before charge ends stop flying. this will keep u with the charges momentum. This is great when your team is on the offensive and u need to get places fast or in the start of the match to hold down a certain key area Disclaimer : This will hurt u and light u on fire and i not reccomended for retreat Also a lot of players can't aim real well so couple bunny hopping with the fly ability to mess up their aim. EXp Jump then fly and when u think they are aiming at u in the air again drop to the ground and repeat. Those are the things i found out and its great to talk to other assault guys
On good thing to know about the assault's bomb is that you can also use it to bomb hop by tossing it on the ground jumping, and then detonating it at the top of your jump. It hurts to do so, but if done corectly it can give you some pretty messed up flanking options. Just besure to not to try this when someone is shooting at you because that bomb can take a chunk of your health when you don't use armor perks.
RoF, Armor and Accuracy are what I use as well. Without RoF your dps with the assault rifle lowers drastically, and it takes much longer to kill bots and turrets with grenade launcher. RoF is also a lot more dependable than crits, which is important. You don't want to have luck determine the outcome of your battles. Accuracy helps a lot at close-range, and you can chip someone who's retreating a lot more often. Armor you need if you want to stay alive with any sort of reliability. I'd also like to agree with level 2 charge being better, I never upgrade to 3 anymore. It leaves you vulnerable for much too long, and the 2 does enough damage as it is. For upgrading, I start with level 2 bomb + charge, then passive, then fly, then level 3 bomb. I don't find the added crits reliable enough to upgrade passive to 3, but the extra jump height on 2 helps in a lot of situations. Other than that, push up lanes and play conservatively. Build up juice, get kills. Assault really escalates when he's on a streak, and will allow you to buy juice constantly. Go into fly as soon as you hear Assassin's cloak, or see one near you. Run from Gunners if you can't kill them fast, and try to stay out of range of Tank's jet gun. Don't charge at Supports if they have their shotgun out, just back off. Assault rifle beats hurt gun every time. And you should be moving around enough to avoid headshots, just be aware of where the Snipers are. This is all pretty basic, but I'm sure it'll help someone. Charge and bomb are both great escape mechanisms, and if you learn to headcrab reliably, it's amazing.
Have you considered rolling with Gold armor and silver fire rate? The Endorsement Data thread states that the Rifle's fire rate is almost identical, and while you'd take a fire rate drop on your grenade launcher its not so drastic as to make you useless at killing bots. The tradeoff for a minor reduction in bot killing is additional survivability. It won't alter your playstyle much either, and allow you to walk away from some encounters you might not win otherwise.
Hmm, I might have to try that gold armor. and yes, I agree that RoF is far better than Crit for numerous reasons. People adding lots of tips, lots of football on, bought Reach, not sure if I can keep up with editing the thread lol.
I started running gold armor, and the added health definitely makes up for the slower grenade launcher, which is only ten more milliseconds between each shot.
